What would you add/change?
We all love our Screws but what would you add/change if you could? My list:
1) Fix the damn Gen III bench seat bolsters! They are way too hard!
2) Make the cup holders pop out instead of being on top of the bench seat middle fold-down and pad the whole top
2) Add a left-foot dead pedal (foot support)
3) Put map pockets on the back of the front seats
4) Make the power slider window standard (or at least an option)
5) Put the trailer hitch ball hole plug in the rear bumper like the F250s and Expeditions come with
6) Offer the in-dash 6-CD w/cassette radio that comes in the Focus and other fine Ford products
What's on your wish list?

Hey,
I would like the following:
1) New seat belt alarm that doesn't go off when you are stationary! I can't stand that thing! Sometimes I would like to listen to my radio without the buzzer.
2) I agree on the 6 disk in-dash. Also Ford should give you a "Premuium" sound system when you upgrade. The 2001 is substandard.
3) A foot support is needed.
4) Fog lights or at least the option on the XLT model.
Willderness

willderness,
I have a gen III S'Crew XLT and it came equipped fog lights, maybe the early gen's didn't offer them? I agree with the seatbelt warning bell and foot rest. I'll add that Ford should upgrade the A/C, it just doesn't have what it takes.

My AC is Ice cold more than sufficient. A foot rest would be great. Put the sunglass pocket back under the steering wheel like they used to have it. Seat back Pockets like my explorer had. Level the truck so that we don't have to and so we are not looking at our tailgate in the rearview.
Heh....
1) for the 6-disk changer setup, it's not to hard to go buy a NICE cd deck & changer, my P720r is actually pretty nice, and with my 6-disk changer, it's pretty good (i also have a 10" sub... but that's beside the point).
2) For the seat belt buzzer, just do what i did & yank it. It is annoying
3) For the hitch ball cap... there's always midnight auto :P Then again, my 4x4 sport never came with one either...
The only gripe i really have is the appolstry on my center console all came apart, and the thing to put it up & down keeps sticking (i'm thinking the dealer will be fixing that). Oh, and the damm tow hooks on front should be standard... that's f..king annoying not to have them on the front, and i'd hate to know how much ford wants for em.

Removing annoying buzzer
TubaMan,
Where exactly is the buzzer under the dash (I know, follow the horrid sound!) and does removing it screw up the security computer or anything? What about the lights-left-on alert and other alarms that you might want to keep?
Oh, and going with the Premium Sound package instead of after-market in my case was a necessity to get a cassette player since we listen to books-on-tape whenever we travel (it makes the miles fly by!). I haven't seen any aftermarket CD/radios with cassette, although I haven't looked too hard. I'm not into hard rock or music that demands a lot of bass so I find the Premium Sound radio to be quite good.
Having the CD deck behind the backseat sucks, though, especially if you want to listen to books-on-CD that are now available -- it takes 5 70-min CDs to (almost) equal 4 90-min tapes so you have to take all of your music CDs out to load a book. Too bad the CD cassettes are so expensive.

I would vote for:
1) A real Off-Road package with front and rear locking diffs and real off road tires and wheels like Weld wheels and BFGoodrich Mudders.
2) Better cupholders for bench seats.
3) More power and economy.
4) Better Stereo.
5) Better rear suspension than just leaf springs. Better shocks, too.
6) Lower gearing with maybe a taller overdrive for econonmy at cruise......
I like my truck a lot but these are some that would be on my wishlist.

GenIII Captains Chairs have pockets on the back of them (mine do). Good post guys, here is my list:
1) Definitely fog light option on 2-wheel drive - that's why I added the L front end on my SCrew
2) Memory buttons for the power driver's seat - never fails I finally get my seat adjusted and then the wife drives it somewhere and screws it all up!! (Chevy has this)
3) Wish the front seats reclined more - every so often (every day
) I take a lunch break in the truck and like to catch a snooze while I am out there. I had an S-10 that the seats would almost lay flat!!
4) Rear window that drops like the SportTrac
5) Dual zone climate control - wife is always cold when I am hot (no I am not talking about our sex life!!
)
6) MORE POWER!!! How about a Sport Model

Looks like others have captured many of my requests.
1. My A/C gets cold but takes way too long. It's just getting good n' cool about the time I reach my driveway on my way home from work. Ok, I live pretty close by, but...
2. Speakers stink. I've already complained about that in another post. If one pays extra for a "premium" sound system (like I did) one should get premium speakers too.
3. Need memory feature for seats. Not just on the Screw but on all vehicles. My wife and I are sick and tired of having to readjust the seat position, seat angle and three mirrors each time we get in each other's vehicle.
4. Would like for a bottle of touch up paint to come standard with truck when purchased. When I was in high school my parents bought a Toyota and found a small bottle of factory matched touch up paint in the glove box when they got it home. It really comes in handy for fixing those door dings from inconsiderate S.O.B.'s, etc.
5. I agree that the cup holders in the center console should have a cover for when they are not being used. The cover could also cover up the spare change holder as well. Why is that thing out in the open anyway?
6. Would like to see factory options for power rear windows and power tail gate locks instead of having to install ourselves aftermarket. Also would like to have a gas cover lock with inside release button.
7. I don't know exactly what the remedy is, but would like to see something done about the stability of the truck when going down the freeway at high speeds. Mine floats all over the road and requires a lot of attention to keep in a straight line. I was told by a die-hard Chevy owner that my new Screw would have this problem. I thought he was just being partisan, but now I have to admit he was right. Anyone else have a comment on this? I don't recall seeing this discussed on this board.
8. Agree that a plug for ball hole in bumper would be nice touch (and cheap too). Would also like to see attractive cover for trailer hitch receiver.
9. Would like to see some more power assit for my brakes. Not sure if this is just a glitch in my own truck or not. When I get into our Grand Marquis I just about throw everybody through the windshield because I am used to mashing the brake down so hard to stop.
In closing I would have to say that I am extremely satisfied with my Screw and these are just a few "minor" suggestions!

I have only owned mine for a month now, but here is my list:
1. Paint the handle for the tailgate, how hard could that be? and besides the doors are painted.
2. Seat and mirror memory.
3. Rear window defroster standard with non-sliding and sliding windows.

Um guys if you read the manual, you can deactivate the seat belt warning buzzer. The instructions are right in the manual, at least on my GEN III.
I think that this list pretty much sums up my feelings. FORD I hope your paying attention for the 2003 SCREW.

Hey guys,
I agree with all the recommedations and like all of you, love my Screw. Here's what I would add:
Premium sound should be that: PREMIUM! I don't mind the factory changer and head unit but those speakers come on! A factory and brand speakers that come in say a Blackwood such as alpine or infinity would be nice.
I luv the autodim feature on the rear view when some idiot has their brights on but at least the driver's side view mirror should have this feature also.
Bigger rims and tires. Nothing flashy but something substantial
A driver's side power button for the moonroof
Fogs that come on with the autolamp feature (some day I'll try this mod)
Fuel readings in direction and temperature gauge
Uh, that's it for now.

This may sound wussy but I would like to have rain-sensing windshield wipers. I had them on my BMW and I loved them. They do for windshields what electronic environment controls do for your heat/AC. You turn the auto-sensor on and the windshield gets wiped when it needs it.
