Unhappy CD player baking CD's!!!!!!

My am/fm/cd player is baking my CD's. After a few songs...4-6 minutes the CD is very hot. If you play an entire CD you can barely hold the CD. Mine has even overheated and discontinued playing the CD. Apparently there isn't a TSB and my dealer isn't replacing the unit. As far as I can remember, I ordered a CD player in this truck, not a F*&%$#! easy bake oven! Anybody else having this problem? Take a look next time you are listening to your CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My next call is to the local area Ford serivce rep!

This is a common problem with captains chairs in which the CD changer is in the center console. No news here.... I haven't had that problem yet..... don't know if there is a solution. Maybe someone else does.

Lightbulb Same Here...

My CD player does the same thing... The CD is really hot, when I remove it. It usually takes the whole CD, before it heats up. I notice it, on long trips, and when driving around town all day.

My Brother has the same problem on his '00 Explorer. My Sis has the same problem on her '00 Saturn.

Anyone Else?

ATL . . .

Had my AM/FM/CD replaced on 04/28/01 at 9484 miles! The new one (please don't ask me for the part number, I've been trying for more than a week to find the time to pull it out, but just haven't got to it yet) has a small fan built into the upper rear case, and it seems to do the job . . . no more overheating problems.

No hassele from the dealer, took a couple of days to get one in, didn't even pull it into the shop.

Sorry, misread your post... my 99 F150 got the CD in the dash pretty hot too, only problem I had with it though was that sometimes it would not eject the CD.

Captains chairs and CD changers (which are in the center console) tend to overheat also due to lack of airflow throught the console (unless of course you drive with it open).

Cool

I had my single disc, in-dash player replaced a couple weeks after I took delivery. I didn't have it replaced until after I put my fist through the front of it though... I was on a road trip and got sick of my tunes cutting out! They replaced it with one that has a fan, but it still cuts out after an hour or so of useage.

It'll hold me until I feel like going aftermarket.

i went through two in dash cd units in my current xlt s-crew in a matter of about 6 months. the cds would get sooo hot you could barely touch em, plus "cd hot" would flash up on the radio monitor and the cd would quit playing. the latest unit has worked fine and you can definitely hear that a fan turns on somewhere in the vicinity of the unit when the ignition is switched on.

Going aftermarket doesn't help. Getting an aftermarket HU was the first thing I did. My CD's are still baked. It's a design problem of in the dash. No place for the heat to go, so it just bathes your HU with heat.

My CD player doesn't bake CDs . Must be the strict California Emissions Laws we have here...

I had the same problem... the fix for mine was as simple as taking it back to the dealership. They said that the fan inside the CD player was not working. Now if I listen, I can hear it still running for a short while after I shut the truck off. No more baked CDs or burnt fingers!!!

Good luck everyone!!!

Is the heating problem occurring with just the in-dash CD players or the CD changers in the consoles?
