i think most of the "overheat" problems were with the in-dash unit. and this problem isn't just related to the f150...it is occuring in the ranger, explorer and probably also the superduty. does anyone know who makes ford's stereos?

I have a 2001 Super cab, In dash CD. My dealer took it out last
week, said 7 to 10 days for my new one. They even paid me for
2 Cd's that got cooked. They also gave me a choise to get a check and buy a after market one. Hell the factory one sounds ok to me. and I like the way it looks.

Bobby,
What dealership are you dealing with? Mine is up in Jasper and is currently responding to my initial call to Ford but hasn't done anything as of yet. They initially claimed ignorance.

Thx

Sorry took so long to get back to you. My dealer is Carolyn
Ford in Fytvl 770-461151. They are great. This is my third truck since 91..Best service around. Had the recall work done on the
driver side wiper, before I got the letter. Gave me a loner(HD Truck) for three days waiting for parts. I have nothing but good
thinges to say about them. Good luck with yours.

Mine bakes CD's but have not pushed the dealer to get it replaced. I am not sure if that would be a long term fix. If I get it replaced with a new unit with a fan great but now I have this fan running and what happens when this crappy little fan only last 2 or 3 years or gets plugged with dirt? Maybe just biting the bullet and spring for an aftermarket unit is the answer.

Thanks for the service info! My dealer just called and wants to extract the unit and send it off for 10 days for evaluation.

As for future reliability of the unit, I'll eventually go MP3 and aftermarket.

Once again thanks for the feedback, this board is invaluable!

Chuck

Going aftermarket has turned out to be the greatest and most enjoyable thing I have done with the truck. At first I thought I didn't want to replace the head unit because of looks, but the Pioneer looks better (I turned off the graphics), and I have 3 6.5 volt pre outs, which work nicely (and sound outstanding) with the rest of the equipment. Sound Advice did the install, and if I get another vehicle, they will move the equipment to the new one, and put the factory stuff back in free of charge.

Those of you that are thinking of going aftermarket (upgrading is a better term), you will be glad you did.

Good luck
