Radiator!! I know, old story
I just got off the phone with Ford PREFERRED Customer Service; I guess I'm special. I was told by Daryl ID#2185 that the corporate office and engineers have concluded that the cooling system is adequate and correct, that the only problem with the system in our trucks is incorrectly printed specification in all FMC literature.
There is no radiator replacement being conducted by FMC or its dealers. So, I guess I have to ask, did everyone here who stated that a new larger radiator was installed in their truck lie or have it put in somewhere other than a Ford Dealership? Damn, I hate paying for something I didn’t receive.

I talked to my dealer's service manager first. I explained the issue, showed him my sticker (which I saved) where it read "radiator upgrade", and he ordered the correct radiator and installed it without a whimper or a fight. Some dealers are taking a hard line; my dealer did what was right. Good luck.
Done by my Ford dealer who does my service with nary so much as a peep. Got the 2.02" radiator. Your experience makes me believe that I am lucky... I prolly got a service advisor who did not know it already had the "correct" radiator.
Got mine replaced
I was able to get mine replaced.
Went to my service advisor and asked him if I had the correct radiator for the towing/cooling upgrade. Showed my order invoice (x plan) and sticker and questioned if I should have gotten the two row radiator. No screaming, no yelling. Just asked him if he could "help" me with my problem. He ordered one (this was about 2 months ago) and I got it installed yeserday when I had my truck in for oil change/seatbelt recall.
(Sidenote- I brought this to his attention when my transmission required replacement at 2,100 miles. He may have been motivated to "keep me happy" as I was not in the best of spirits having my tranny replaced after 2 months....)

Radiators
Went thru a couple of calls and showed my order sheet showing HD radiator package with towing package. I felt I was paying for something that I did not get. The radiator that was in truck would I am sure cool fine. They changed it out for me.
Kinda Confused here. Just got a 2001 S-Crew 4x4 5.4 with towing group. I looked under the hood at its a 1" single row. Is this correct or should I have to 2 row.
Seems like there are conflicting answers.
Thanks

Man guys,
I have read almost every thread on this site concerning the small radiator issue and I still am not sure what Ford's position is here. Sounds like the dealers are just taking it on their own to give bigger radiators while Ford continues to state that a 1.02" radiator is just fine.
I wonder what happens to the 1.02" radiators after the dealer takes one out and replaces it with the 1.42" or the 2.02" one I keep hearing about?
Sounds to me like the dealer is not telling the whole story to Ford and they just pay the claim for the radiator based on whatever the dealer tells them was the reason for replacement. The dealer must order a replacement with the bigger core and Ford would never know that the truck was not equipped with the bigger radiator from the factory.
If Ford ever gets wind of the screw-ups, or they match serial numbers with production records then they will see that dealers are ordereing something different than what was installed originally.
An extreme variant might be that Ford has secretly made an agreement with dealers to use their own discression on who should get a bigger radiator or not.

Holy crap!!
I just had my radiator replaced today. They ended up putting in the HUGE 2.02" dual core. This sucker is twice the size of the original. I could tell immediately that there was a big difference in the cooling. Funny thing about it is that this dealer had already told me no about three times! I guess they got sick of hearing my bitching about it and did something! Now if I could just get them to fix the rest of my problems.
Just a thought,
My first impression when finding out that Ford was not putting the bigger radiators in trucks with tow package bothered me. However, the more I read on this site and the more I thought about it I started to change my view. I would still be pissed about the money difference they charged with no radiator upgrade though.
I learned some time ago, that an engine that is running at around 190F water temperature has a better fuel economy than when run under the same conditions at say a temperarure of 160F.
In theory, internal combustion engines are more efficient running at higher temperatures than at lower ones. I wonder if Ford was trying to optimize the fuel economy of screws by keeping engine temps as high as possible without causing other problems from the extra heat by using the smaller radiator.
Remember, Ford has a reputation to uphold and would they put that at risk using smaller radiators than necessary if there was any doubt in their minds?
