Question Has anyone self-installed a remote start-->

in their Screw? I just bought a new alarm with remote start and I will be installing it soon. I have installed plenty of alarms, so that won't be a problem, but this will be my first remote start. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks for any help!

My dealer told me that any alarm other than a Ford alarm will VOID your electrical warrenty. I don't know if this is a Ford thing or just my dealer. So just a warning, you may want to talk to your dealer about that.

As far as putting in the remote start, I would make sure you really know what your doing or have someone (perferably with insurance) who knows what there doing put it in.

As far as requirments the only one is that you need to have a automatic trans. One other thing I might worry about is bypassing the key chip sensor that unlocks the computer when you put the ignition key in.

Just a few questions your should get answered before you start.

I've read that you can place a key in the console to bypass the key security system.

Somebody must have bought their Supercrew at Mossy Ford in Pacific Beach. They used that same line on us.

i do not have one on my new screw yet but have had a total of 4 installed on my previous vehicles.....it is not easy as i haven't installed one myself.....but the same trouble spot always seems to be the ignition coil....i would take it to someone ... it would keep you from having a lot of headaches.......also it is false that you have to have an automatic.....one of my vehicles was a manual as some of my friends have too....you just can't leave it in gear...one of my friends had some one use it for him and found it parked on a porsche one morning....lol oh and i have always used Viper's remote start never failed.

I just finished installing the Hornet 553T (DEI) in my 2001 Supercrew King Ranch. Let me tell you it is difficult. Of course, the 553T is a remote start and alarm in one, so it was quite in-depth. Depending on what remote start system you got, there will be a special module for use with the PATS system in the Supercrews that you will have to get. DEI makes several that work with them. I got the 555U, but apparently the 555T or 555L will also work (don't know for sure, but that's what my friend who's an installer told me).

The installation will vary greatly between models and brands, so no general installation rules apply. I can help with specific installation of the 553T and probably any DEI one, pending the wiring is similar to what I just finished.

follow the installation instructions

that come with them. The DEI one is the easiest one. I went to a fuel injector for the signal to tell the module when the truck has started instead of the tach signal. As for the PATS, the easiest way to do it is to get a third key made that works, cut the key portion off, remove the pats reciever from around the ignition cylinder and tie strap the key portion of the PATS to the reciever. Tie that **** high in the dash because it will now start with a regular key. Some people think that is crazy but it how most professional installers are doing it. Lots of pros I consulted with (old friends of mine I used to do this for a living) are saying the DEI kit to bypass the PATS does not work dependably.

I love being able to fire up the L and have it nice and cool when I get in. It's going to be even better having the truck nice and toasty in the winter
