Cool Took Delivery of a 2002 SCrew yesterday...

I just bought a 2002 SCrew yesterday. A LOADED Lariat 4x4, Dark Highland Green and Arizonia Beige. I will be driving this one around for a year waiting until I can order a 2003.

Hello flee,
I'm curious like Troy, how are the seats on the new '02? I'm getting the itch to order mine real soon but probably a KR. Any other changes from '01 in addition to any responses to TroyK's question?

Thanks,
DaveMan

TroyK and DAVEMAN,

There are no changes from the 2001 model year with the exception of the Auto Climate Control feature which was not available on the 2001 Lariats. Other than that change everything is 100% the same.

DAVEMAN - Why not just wait and order a 2003 in 10 months? I think that BIG changes will occur in the 2003s. Isn't this correct?

Hey flee,
Do you have any markets? I couldn't resist asking. I'm sure you have been asked that one before huh?

Thanks for the info on your '02.

Since there is no big difference between the '01s and '02s, and my dealer still has 2 '01 KRs they want to part with, then I may opt for a left over '01 vs ordering a new '02. Hummm....Wonder if I ought to try and strike a deal and then order the '02 bench back seat as a replacement part.

I'm sure I can get a 3.9 APR for 60 months from Ford with left over '01s and that will save me thousands over an '02.

What do you think? Why didn't you buy a left over '01 vs an '02?

just because the f150 in supposedly changing in '03 doesn't necessarily mean the s-crew will also be changing. it has only been around for a year and half so far. i suspect the s-crew may not change until '04-'05. anyone have any insider info?

i'm also hoping that they don't look too much like the new explorer. but i'm only cautiously optimistic since photos of the next generation expedition show the styling headed that way...

What about radiator sizes on 2002's with towing packages and or clunking 4R70W transmissions, are there any changes? I'm asking just in case you are familiar with these two things.

Question

I heard that an option on the 02s was the Crystal Effect headlights, which is supposed to be like the 01L headlights.
Any truth to that?

Mercedes,

I looked into the '02 specs real close and thus far see no reference to the 1.42" thick radiator that used to be included with the towing package. The standard core is 1.02" according to the '01 detailed cooling system specs.

I measured one in a late '01 KR with tow package recently and it was the 1.02" one. Bummer since I think the bigger radiator is a good idea and worth the extra they already charge for the tow package.

Looks like maybe Ford has dropped that radiator mod on the tow package for some reason. Probably a cost reduction since maybe there was only a few problems with smaller section radiators connected to warranty claims???? Just guessing.

Can't comment on the tranny cause I'm not familiar with the specifics.

See Ya,

daveman,

i haven't kept real close tabs on the radiator issue. but, from what i have read, it appears that people were getting hung up on the words describing the content of the tow package. if you go to kbb.com and build an '01 s-crew, the tow package says it contains a "heavy duty electrical/cooling package". understandably, most people take that to mean a larger radiator. well, if you keep reading the tow package info, it never says anything about a larger radiator, just mentions heavy duty battery and upgraded tranny cooling. for '02 ford has changed the wording of the tow package and it no longer says anything like "heavy duty electrical/cooling package". it just says heavy duty battery and upgraded tranny cooling. i don't think ford ever had any intention of making the larger radiator an option on the s-crew...at least from what i can tell. however, they probably should have picked their words more carefully...!

Hey Troy,

You may be right, but I have the '01 detailed specs on my desk as I'm writing and it says that there was a 1.42" and a 1.02" radiator available in '01. I'm a little unsure on how the rows of data are catagorized though.

One row under the 5.4L section states, and I quote, "std., A/C and the other row is marked SC". I'm not sure how they are using the terms but the row marked "std., A/C" uses a 1.02" radiator core and the row marked "SC" uses a 1.42" core. Same data under the 4.6L engine too but all under the 4.2L are 1.02" thick cores.

This is what I have and what I was trying to say without typing all that &*%^.

I think you are right for '02 trucks too, everything I have seen indicates that they have dropped the bigger radiator but hey, you never know for sure unless you talk to someone at Ford. I'm just speculating.

Talk Later,
DaveMan

Ford's response to HD radiator issue

See my post of what Ford has sent to their dealers concerning the HD radiator issue. Basically, they say that the 1" radiator meets the HD requirements so that is what they are putting in. I'm sure that all '02s will come with only 1" radiators.

My late '01 Screw (built 7-17-01) has the 1" radiator and it's performed well in the Midwest heat and humidity so I can't disagree with Ford's statements. Since I'm leasing, I didn't think that it was worth the hassle to argue about it, plus my dealer had been armed with this info from Ford so I don't think I could win anyway.
