What's up with the late '01 and '02 seats?

I drove my first screw ('01 King Ranch with quad buckets) today and compared to my '00 Lariat seats they suck. I am ready to order a new '02 screw but after driving one today I have some reservations in parting with my '00 Scab 4x4. The new '02 seats are hard as a rock and I feel like I am sitting on top of some expensive milk crates. I love the truck other than the seats and I am glad Ford decided to make the back bench seat optional on the KR. I think the seats look good but they don't feel as good as they look.

1. Who out there thinks the new style seats are an improvement?
2. Who thinks Ford made a big mistake going with the new seats and should they eventually go back to the '00 and early '01 style seats?
3. Has anyone broke in the new style seats to make them more comfortable yet?

i haven't sat in a new s-crew for a long period of time. however, i did recently sit an an '01 king ranch and thought the seats were very comfortable. more comfy than my '01 xlt with first generation seats. but, i also like my seats really firm. it seems to me that firmer seats work out better when you are on a long trip, less fatigue. just my two cents.

Thanks for the reply Troy. I need some more support if any one else can comment I would appreciate it. My gut feeling is I think I will be happier with the screw but the seats are something you have to live with and cannot change easily.
Thanks again and maybe you'll get a chance to drive a late model screw with buckets soon.

Hey DAVEMAN

I just sold my 1999 s-cab with excellent buckets that seem to be on the verge of going soft, and will pick up my new 2001 S-Crew with the new style (I think) cloth buckets on Thursday,, I'll post my impressions then.
I really have the ability to compare the two as my brother bought my 1999 so we can do a side by side comparo.

BTW,,,,, what seats will I be getting in my new S-Crew? it was built in Ontario in August 01.

Thanks for the reply 4rdfan.

I don't know exactly what seats were installed in your build but my guess is they are exactly like the ones in the KR I drove today. Like I said earlier, the seats look great but they are just very very firm. Maybe over time they work out to be perfect but I guess I may just have to find out myself because comfort is such a subjective measure that each individual usually has a different view but over time the consensus is clear. Good luck with your truckin! By the way, is your future '01 screw a KR, Lariat or XLT, what color and other specs, just curious?

I picked up a '01 KR about a month ago. I love the seats. I switched from a '99 BMW 328i with sports package to the KR. I am very picky about seats and I feel that the KR seats are almost as comfortable as the sports seats (ultimately adjustable) in my old beamer.

Cool, Thanks for the reply Art and all your specs .

I am torn over the chestnut vs the charcoal blue on the KRs. I tend to always choose blue over most other colors even though my present '00 Lariat Scab 4x4 is oxford white with arizona lower two tone and I love that color scheme however I will probably opt for the KR if and when I place my order for a new '02 KR.

By the way, did the seats in your month old '01 screw always feel great from day one or did you find them firm at first and later find them better after some miles and use?

Thanks

At first I was considering chestnut. Mainly because two out of three dealerships that I was looking at only had chestnut. I then found a dealership, which I bought my truck at, that had eight KRs to choose from with two or three in each color: green, blue, chestnut. I instantly liked the charcoal blue. But I had them pull the trucks side by side so I could really get a good look at them. I went there on a cloudy day and then a sunny day to see them in different light. The charcoal blue rocks.

I never really noticed a firmness in the seats. They just feel great. The leather is awesome. I want to buy a couch in the same leather now. Oh yeah, I received a little gift in the mail from Ford the other day. It was a KR leather portfolio, which matches the seats.

Thanks Art for sharing your intimate thoughts and decisions on your KR purchase. That's just what I wanted to hear. I am starting to really like this forum stuff and it's kinda like a support group for those of us that buy expensive toys that need justification to make poor investments. But what the hell, I think cars and trucks are a much ways of spending my money than drinking or smoking it away don't you.

I am so glad that there are some folks out there that take the time to type reply. I am very new to this forum but if you havn't noticed, take a gander at how many times your messages are viewed compared to how many replies you get. There is an astronomical ratio of views compared to replies. Just wish more people took the time like you to share their thoughts cause when I am about ready to drop 30,000+++ bucks on something I like to know who else was thinking, comparing, double taking and just plain unshure before they signed on the dotted line.
Stay Cool
