Grooved roof?
They do two things. You'll notice the grooves nearest the doors are deepest. Since windows no longer have the rain guards around them, these grooves channel the water away from the windows. The second purpose is strength... a corrugated roof is much less likely to flex, thereby providing a stronger base for attaching the headliner and goodies like the entertainment system or sun roof.
They are simply put there to stiffen the roof panel, just like some of the formations in the cargo box.
They may do other things as far as diverting water or whatever but that is just incidental.

Roof ridges
Ford put them on so those of us who have the moonroof can enjoy a nice refreshing splash of water from the roof when we drive off with the moonroof open.......They funnel as much water as possible into the cab.

Speaking of the grooved roof, I was washing my new Screw for the first time this weekend, and I noticed that the outer two grooves did not have good paint coverage on the vertical sides of the groove. Anyone else have this problem? Should I take it back to the dealer to get the roof repainted? The color is deep wedgewood blue.
Thanks

Mine's bad too. The paint in the outer groove of my roof is blistering.
The dumbest thing is the body shop at my local dealer is open from 8 to 5:30 M-F. Needless to say if I have to take time off for work to get this fixed I will not be happy.

If you will notice those grooves on the outside are filled with compound. That makes it look like the paint is not smooth. As for yellowing, I guess if the paint job is not good or does not cover well the compound would begin to bleed thru. My paint seems to be fine, it is just wierd to have that soft compound in there instead of metal.
