4x4 off-road package ride quality
I know that the 4x4 off-road package comes with heavy duty shocks. Does anyone know if the ride quality on the road is any different between a screw with the off-road package versus the standard shocks?
couple of our company trucks are s'crews, and one is a lariat off road with the 17's and the other an xlt w/ 16's and no orp. Both 5.4's, captains, everything else much the same - and they both ride about the same in my opinion. I bet if you asked me which i was driving, i would not be able to tell you unless i looked at the colour!

heavy duty shocks come with either the towing package or the off road package. The ride is very harsh with these shocks. when i go over a bump in the road it jars everything like a motherf&^&r. i figure if your gonna be carrying payload or towing most of the time its worth it. but i usually drive around with the bed empty and i wish i had softer shocks.
COMPLETELY disagree with helper,
You'll never get a meaningful answer to this question unless you know what someone was driving before they bought their SCrew. I was driving a 1990 Isuzu Trooper. My wife has a late model Dodge Caravan. I have the 4X4 SCrew with trailer/tow and to me, this machine drives like a dream. It is a truck, of course, so I had no expectations that it would drive like a sedan. Nonetheless, I'm amazed at the comfort of the ride, the way it handles dips, potholes, etc. and its overall handling characteristics. Definitely not like any truck that I've ever been in before. As I take my SCrew offroad, I would not want the ride any softer/squishier than it is.
I've seen some SCrew-drivers complain about the suspension/handling and can only guess that they must have been driving something with a big car like suspension before buying the SCrew. Nothing else would seem to explain the huge difference in opinion that some people have concerning the ride of this great truck.

my gen II s-crew has trailor tow package (16 inchers) and rides pretty good. my only other driving experience with another s-crew was with one that had the off road package. i honestly couldn't tell the difference but it was a short drive. probably need more seat time to really discern a difference.
My SCrew has the hd trailer tow package and 17" wheels with the captains chairs and everyone who has ever ridden in it can't believe the smooth ride. I have ridden in 2x4 F150 super cabs and they don't have as good a ride as the 4x4 Screw. I drove a 4x4 F250 short bed crew cab with a 460 gas engine before the Screw and 4x4 F350 crew cabs before it. Needless to say the Screw rides like a Lincoln in my book.
I drove a Pontiac Bonneville SLE before my Supercrew (4X4, 17" tires). While I cannot say it drives as smoothly as that car, it has a better ride than my daughters Neon. Everyone I have had in the car has commented on how comfortable it is for a truck that sits fairly high.
I think the independent front suspension along with some fairly mild all terrain tires, compromise "heavy duty" shocks and springs make it a good hybrid vehicle. You cannot compar a Screw with a Superduty because the bigger boys have solid front suspensions (at least they did).

I am a proud owner of a 2001 F350 super crew 4x4. V-10,LB. I have 305 cooper at's and a 2"front end lift with Procomp shocks. I have absolutely no complaints and love the ride and comfort. It may be a little stiffer ride than stock but not much. The comfort and ride is what I liked most about the truck when I test drove it.

My SuperCrew (ORP) rides somewhat better than the 98 F150 that I sold a year or so ago but I still thought it was harsh (unless I had about 1000 lbs or so in the back). I replaced the shocks with Rancho RSX which helped. It still doesn't ride as good as my wife's Burb, but then that rides better than most cars!
