CD Changer

Purchased new F 150 Supercrew XLT - Bench Seats the other day. Went back to dealership to ask about adding 6 disc changer. I was given a quote of $450 for changer and harness and another $300 for labor to install.

Is this right? $750 for a changer?

Thanks for your help.

A CD changer is only a $259 option when you order a truck. The prices they quote are a rip it sounds to me. The install will be some work but not sure it's that much.

CD Changer

Unless you just like the stock appearance of the CD changer from the dealership (although usually it's under your seat, so who cares?) you can definately get a LOT better deal than that. Circuit City had them starting at less then $300 with free installation. (And I would emagine it is probably a better unit.)

I highly recomend getting stereo equipment after market, as it will save you a ton of money and you have a lot more options, plus the equipment is normally better aftermarket.

Or if you want to keep your head unit you can buy the parts and install it yourself. It is very easy. It just plugs in. Some vehicles already have the harness. If you have a center console it will end there but may be under the carpet. If you have a bench seat it will be behind the back seat in one of the openings. Mine is in my console.

I am having one installed in my supercrew. It is a 6 disc changer from ford. Out of a 97 f150. Brand new. The Ford authorised intaller is going to charge me $100.00 for instaling it with the harness included.

I have a factory 6 disc changer (bucket seats - in the console) but I really like the in dash 6 disc changers. They would be easier to load and unload when driving!
