Actually Screwdriver...the KR package is nowhere near 2-3K...a similarly equipped lariat is within a few hundred. I just like d the KR is all...it is unique.

An interesting thing to note though...is that when Edmunds lists the TMV (their estimation of true market value based on actual transaction prices)...the KR has a TMV close to sticker while the XLT and lariat are closer to invoice.

In the long run...and since I could get any at under invoice with x-plan....I saw the KR as having better resale potential...if i ever sell that is...i love it.

just look at the explorer limited and Eddie Bauers...the hold value measurably better than a XLT.

Now...having said all that...I saw a black lxlt 4x4 with the billet fuel door and billet shorty antenna...and the brushed alluminum wheels...that looked as good as any supercrew I have ever seen.

I don't fault anybody for any 150 choice they make....but lets not try to tell me I wasted money on my King ranch...OK?

Ditto! I just bought mine under the A-plan and got a really good deal. I love the leather seats.

Thumbs up Re: King Ranch Rear Bench Seat

Has anyone else had any success in finding out when the bench seat is available? I really like the KR interior but the bucket seats in the back limit me to 4 passengers.
I was just at my local Ford Dealer and picked up the '02 literature for the trucks. Your wish has come true, there is an option to order the King Ranch with rear bench seat. I am like you dlh4by4, I like the King Ranch package too but don't like the rear bucket seats for practical reasons. Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for my 2 year old son, I would love to own the King Ranch with the dual rear buckets but it is not practical for me. I am almost ready to order my screw and it will be either the King Ranch with the rear bench seat or a Lariat with the new FX4 Off Road Package with the new 17" five spokers with Stainless Steel lug nuts. Good luck with your new screw purchase .

just got off the phone with my local dealership. according to my salesman, the bench seat appears to be available. they couldn't get any info from ford, so they decided to try and order one with the bench. apparently the order would go through just fine. i guess if something isn't available, the computer will give them a message saying so. anyway, tomorrow i'm going in to see what kinda deal they will give me on a trade for a new '02 4x4 charcoal blue king ranch. wish me luck!

Doing some research,

XTRUKY,
I was looking into ordering an '02 KR 4x4 and discovered there is a $2500 difference, MSRP wise, between a Lariat and a KR just as you said in an earlier reply. However, the KR has a lot of standard stuff you have to pay for in a Lariat.

So, for $2,500, you get Captains chairs with KR leather, Home Link, Heated seats, rear buckets w/center console, special wheels, special paint and trim, lighted color keyed running boards (Cab Steps) and color keyed box railings, sliding rear window, premium stereo center console mounted 6 disc changer.

If you order a Lariat with exactly what you can get with a KR there is approx. a $1,115 difference. So the KR leather, heated seats and lighted running boards cost you $1,115 more. Taking a guess as to the value of the heated seats, lighted running boards, rear buckets w/console, say half the difference, I would guess the KR leather cost about $560 more than standard leather.

After a closer look the KR, I think it's the better deal to me since it's unique and it may hold it's value like the Lariat series always has. Let me know what you think now!

To everyone else,
Had two crazy ideas to help with the rear buckets if you don't like them. Maybe it would be possible to remove the rear center console and install a third bucket seat, I am sure some sort of Engineering would need to be done, sounds fairly easy though.

Also, anyone should be able to order the '02 rear bench to upgrade an earlier one with twin rear buckets and sell them through this forum or just keep them in storage for later.

Just trying to help.

I had trouble choosing between XLT & KR. The KR leather feels more 'buttery' soft, but the captain's chairs in back just didn't work for me (didn't want to keep golf clubs in bed). When I saw the available rear bench mentioned on Edmunds, I thought about waiting for the '02 just for that reason. But the more I test drove the 2, the more I realized that (for me) the Lariat front captains chair was actually more comfortable than the KR- probably due to seat & side bolsters. I also liked some features of the HD, esp. the 20" wheels, but all black doesn't make sense for me either. It sure looks good, but it shows dirt so quickly and here in Florida it really heats up.
To the point- I asked the dealer about the option and they just played dumb (maybe they weren't playing). Figured they wanted to move remaining '01s.

i've looked at both the lariat and kr captains chairs. and to me they look like the same exact seat...just a different leather covering...

Troy,
Manufacturing wise that would make sense. Otherwise they would have to have do two designs, double testing as well as increased cost on whichever model had the least volumes. I would think without even riding in either that the basis of the seats would have to be the same. But, I have been wrong before and if I am in this case it probably won't be the last.

I'm still thinkin about that Charcoal Blue Screw too!

My $.02 worth

Anyone with a KR,

I have a favor to ask.
Can anyone with a KR, with the rear bucket seats, get a couple of measurements for me? I would like to know what the distance is between the two rear buckets and what the width of the bucket seats are at the seat cushion or at it's widest dimension.

I have an idea about adding an addtional bucket seat in place of the rear console on an '01 KR. If this just is not possible at all then I will look into the feasability of buying the 60 part of the 60/40 rear bench seat setup available for the '02 KRs.

I know the first comment will be to buy an '02 and get the rear bench, but if I can safely upgrade an '01 I can save some serious bucks.
I would never attempt this unless I was 100% certain that it would be safe. If this cannot be done safely, I will drop the idea as fast as I came up with it. Comments are welcomed too.

Thanks for helping,

DaveMan

No Problem

A third bucket fits perfectly, I just measured it.
Also I don't think the KR seat and the Lariat and XLT seats are the same. The framework is probably identical but the panel stitching is different. Go for it.

Wow, thanks ScrewKing.

I guess my hunch was right, it sure looked like it might fit!

I'm not sure what you meant on the XLT and Lariat statement.

The '02 KRs have an optional rear bench available and it should be the exact same dimensions as the '01 truck mounting in the XLT and Lariat chassis, don't you think?

Now, if I could just get the cost of the rear bucket to put in place of the console and to investigate how to mount it without being unsafe or cheesy! Seat belt mounting will be an issue too, I bet, but hey it sure sounds fairly easy though.

Thanks again ScrewKing,

DaveMan

Hey guys,

I contacted my dealer today about picking up one of their left over '01 KR 4x4 screws and got the best deal that can be had at that particular dealer. Invoice price less the holdback, part with the $1500 rebate and take the 3.9% interest for 60 month. Damn that's a long time to pay such high payments, don't you think?

Main reason "I'm a postin", is to find out if anyone knows how much a rear bucket seat might cost for an '01 KR? Dealer knows that I'm thinkin' about the 3 buckets for the rear and to remove the center console for mounting. The dealer just doesn't want to get involved. Kinda' don't blame them in a way but they just don't realize that I'll be the last person to take a chance with a cheesy seat installation. Got to be safe, first and foremost. Will reinstall the rear center console when my son gets bigger or if I need to sell it before that.

I got a breakdown from the dealer and they claim that I will have to buy the rear bucket in pieces and it cannot be purchased as a complete unit. They mentioned something like $700 to start with and it goes from there, does that sound right?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
DaveMan
