2003 Diesel Supercrew??
So how would a Supercrew diesel with 235 horsepower at 400 foot lbs. torque perform? I would think it would be pretty lethargic or am I wrong?

hey, thanks for the link! that was an interesting article. i'm not sure that i'd take to the diesel option, but i'm sure others would. the 400 lb/ft of torque actually kicks the current 5.4's **** and would probably get better fuel mileage. might not be a bad alternative to the complex ohc engines...plus, i'll bet ford won't specify 5w20 in the diesel motor?!
Diesel Torque @ 340lbs.
The article calls for 340 ft lbs of torque, so where's the benefit of the diesel? Better get some great mileage. The 5.4 has 350 on the torque.
There must be a misprint, as the Expedition article lists the 5.4 2V power output instead of an improved 3V head model.

hummm, at second look that article is confusing! at the bottom there is a specification for 400 lb/ft or torque but i can't tell if that is the rating for engines that will go into the expedition, or what.
Revision dates to article
The different numbers are most likely due to the article being revised over time.

I believe the torque number of 400 is the more current rating.

If it does have 235hp/400ftlbs, it will probably out run and out pull the current 5.4. Remember, with the diesel, that torque is available at much lower rpms, lending to quick acceleration. My 5.4 3.73 can't keep up with my buddy's 7.3 dually...
If they can get this engine quieter than the 7.3 and offer it at a decent price ($2500 or less), I would definitely consider it. All that power and with it being only a 4.5, I would expect 20 MPG empty and 15-16 towing (I currently get 15 empty, 11 when towing).
Anyone else think this could be a great thing?

I'm Ready to order mine now! I have been wishing that Ford would introduce a smaller diesel suitable for the half ton crowd.
All my buddies with Super-Duty's are always bragging about the gas mileage of the PowerStroke, and then they out-accelerate the 4.6 because of the turbo.

This is the one we have been waiting for---a diesel in the F150,,yes 400ft lbs torque..this will be a pulling truck and you talk fuel mileage---I am thinking 25-30 mpg....
I already get 20 in the PSD......
It will be quieter--waiting on the camless,,not that is a revolutionary engine and control--you have it all--from the cab if you want fuel mileage, click a switch, if you want power-use another setting, downtown to get emission tested, try another position....
Know that is control and selection---give the people what they want....

BTW---watch out for those PSD's ---they are running 700ft lbs torque and 400hp and I know a couple of guys that are in the 14's.....these are the mild manner ones...I have heard of 600hp and 900ft lbs torque and 12's---all this out of a 7000+ lbs truck.
Who could ask for more?????
My wife drives the SCrew and it is the nicest riding truck I have owned....

there is a picture of the engine in the current Truck Trend.
235HP is what the current PS 7.3 has folks.
Take that engine, add what is sure to be a great Western Diesel Exhaust nd intake systems and you'll be at 300+ and 500 lb ft.
Wouldn't it be great if they offered a longer wheel base and bigger box.

I drive a VW Jetta Turbo diesel as my everyday car, my Supercrew is my play truck. I'm sold on diesels, if Ford offers a light duty truck with a proven diesel I'm on board....the VW TDI is a great engine in a great package....
