weathertech window visors
weathertech window visors
Just installed the weathertech window visors.
They were easy to install and look great.
One question....... does anybody know if the
weathertech logo decals will come off and
if so the best way to do it ?
I hate manufacturers decals, unless they
want to pay me for being their billboard.
Thanks.

I agree wholeheartedly about the free advertising business. I love my dealer but I immediately peeled his decal off of my tailgate when I got home. Not to mention that it was crooked. There is another dealer in the area that I would never buy from because they (Wall's) put two stickers on the rear bumper and two logo plates on the fenders under the F150 logos. They also do the usual front plate and plate frames. Talk about overkill.
I plan on ordering the weathertechs as well. I had them on my explorer and they were great. No decals on them though.

DaveW,
I agree, I just took mine off last week!
I took them off before installation, though.
I used a hair dryer to warm the sticker a little bit, and **carefully, slowly** peeled away at it with my fingernail. (Don't know if caution is needed, but went slow and easy just to be safe and avoid any scratches.)
It came off in bits and pieces, but I was able to get it all eventually.
With the sticker gone, there was still gummy residue to worry about. I used a rag slightly soaked with acetone (nail polish remover). Knowing that acetone can "melt" plastic I was worried it would distort the view through the visors. I would dab about two or three rubs of the acetone rag on a small area, then immediately wipe with a dry rag then scrub with a windex soaked rag. This went slooow -- took me about 30 minutes to do all four visors -- but the results were great! When finished, I noticed a few areas where the acetone had apparently "smeared" the plastic with its melting action, and I was scared that would show up and make my visors look like cr@p! But once they were installed I couldn't tell, not even on close inspection.
Anyway, this is what worked for me. I'm sure there are simpler ways of going about it, but this gave me some thing to feel "productive" about while watching golf on tv!

norm and fritoz,
thanks for the info.
I have been thinking about
the acetone but a little worried
about it. I guess I'll try it.
I should have done it before I
installed them. Maybe I'll take them
off the truck to make it easier.

Go to your local computer store and they will have some products that removes the gummy stuff and not harm the plastic. I am out of it right now and can not remember the product name but I used it on tapes and diskettes with no problem.
The stuff you want to use to remove the glue is called "Goo Gone". It's citrus based, does an excellent job and won't harm the plastic no matter the amount used. Highly recommend!

We have five Fords in our driveway - three (my F-150, my wife's Thunderbird, son-in-law's Conversion Van) bought new at Portsmouth Ford! My truck is my third one also!
Can't beat the deals - but I don't think the Service Department is keeping pace with the Sales Department . . .

True, my wifes Focus always smells like burning oil after an oil change. They seem to spill it somewhere when they remove the filter or add the new oil. I asked them to try harder and it has been OK the last 2 changes.
I have not asked about the radiator issue yet. I do not presently tow anything so I have not been bothered by it.
