Question Captain's chairs vs. Bench

My wife and I have an Expedition with the Captain's chairs. We are going to trade it for a S-crew. We found one we like but it has a bench seat (leather). We really like the captain's chairs (and console) in the Expy. Any suggestions? Is there that much difference between the two?

Cool

DRKHORSE,

I have the bench in my Extended cab, and I can't stand it! The passenger seat is really comfy, but the driver's seat is another story!

After sitting in a few with the captains chairs, I am now on the prowl for a set and a console.........

Dont forget the seat changes that happened in the last year. The Gen III seats are great! You can tell by the headrests.

I had a 98 F150 with bench and my 01 SCrew has the bench. Can't complain because I never had the big console. So if you like to have lots of storage space you need to get it. As far as the captain's chair is concerned, if you buy the Lariat it comes with power seats and not sure what else comes with the captain's chair.

Haven't sat in the captains' chairs, I have the GenIII 60/40 w/power drivers' seat. They are comfortable on the road (took a short trip last weekend). I like the extra room the bench offers, too. Just my .02

I gave a GenII SCrew with the 60/40 seats and like it but we have a lot of grandchildren and we do use the extra room. My wife likes thc comfort of the 60/40 seats better than the captains chairs as we test drove both before selecting the 60/40 seat. I did not like the side support of the captain chairs even though I really wanted the console.

We have a somewhat stripped SCrew- but the thing we did get was the Captains chairs-no mistake here...they are fabric however-we both dont like the leather....These are some of the best and most comfortable seats I have ever owned...The wife likes them as well.....GenIII...

I have been hearing about the padding in the leather seats??If this is what you want, you might read about these leather seats...

I've got the leather buckets (Gen III) and the console. I haven't had any problems. Very comfortable, infinite electric adjustment, good lumbar support. Console is great for storing phone, stuff, etc. Also the cd changer is in my console. It's behind the rear seat if you get the bench.

It's a matter of preference. If you need seating for 6 you've gotta have the bench. Personally, I like the "throne" I have all to myself. I don't think you can go wrong with either seat setup, it's in one fine truck.....

What Robdude said. Love the 60/40 leather bench (genIII) with power drivers seat and extra room it provides (I do occasionally need it). I would say if you expect to need the seating capacity, get the bench...if not, then the captians...

my .03 hope this helps..

I've got the Captains chairs, but wish I had the 60/40 bench seat. I had the 60/40 in my 98 F-150 and loved them, and was kind of disappointed that the only thing I didn't like about the 2000 F-150 that I purchased was that it didn't have the 60/40. Ahh well...

Bench Seats vs. Captain's Chairs

I have the 60/40 bench seat and it is very comfortable. It includes a fold down center armrest. We like the versatility for carrying 6 passengers. Also, we have a little terrier that sometimes likes to sit between us. Can't do that with the captain's chairs.

Finally, the wife can sit right next to me on those occaisions when we feel like being romatic. Kind of like being a kid again in high school.

It really somes down to what you want and need. I have a friend with an Expy. He got captain's chairs in the front and second row. The third seat is almost useless. Essentially he has this big truck that can haul about the same number of people as a Toyota Corolla, albeit more comfortably. It works for him but wouldn't be my choice.
