Thanks Greg. The main thing that I didn't like about the Advance Cover is that it is only two panels for the Screw. I want 3 or 4 panels to make the bed a bit more accessable. Also how is the locking system. Does it do a good job of locking items in the bed? I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. PS. How much was it?
Thanks,
LouScrew

$750 installed, including taxes. I had contacted fold-a-cover and they recommended that I have the cover installed by an experienced installer.

Both the front and back hatches have slam latches. So they are very easy to lock. You just have to let go and they lock. The locks are recessed with rubber covers. To unlock, the keys are little weird. They are shaped like a “T”, but are short so they don’t stick up above the lock hole. To me, with the key on a key chain, it is a little difficult to turn. The other problem is that I am left-handed. I want to use my left hand to turn the key, but the lip you use to lift the cover is on the left side. So I am always re-gripping. (This only applies to the back hatch.) That is what I get for living in a right-handed world. As for locking the tailgate, I still depend on the Ford installed lock and not on the cover. I asked the installer to not install the tailgate piece so that I could open the tailgate without having to open the cover. Totally my choice.

Finnaly some pics

Thanks for posting them. I have really like the fold type covers on the Sporttrac and have been waiting to see some pics of one on a Screw.

I think I'm still on the fence on this vs. the retractable type of lid.

I just installed my new Advance cover. Advance has redesigned their weather seal gaskets and now there is only one "D" gasket that mounts on the truck rails. It is about 3/4" wide and sticks on--no screws. The second "D" gasket is mounted on the underside of the cover itself. You do have to drill six holes in the side of the bed rail to rivet the center bracket that holds the hinge and supports the center of the cover. I am very pleased with the way the cover looks from the outside. While functional the brackets that lock the cover shut on the inside are not best looking in the world. They are just pieces of ell shaped alum. about a foot long that are held on with clamps. On the Supercrew the clamps just barely do catch the bracket on the bottom, but I called Advance and they said they were strong enough that way. Haven't had rain or a car wash since I put it on so can't say yet as to how weather proof it is. Bill D.

Advance cover hint

I had to have my mud flaps adjusted, and was talking with the installer afterward. He was asking about my Advance cover and I opened the back half and folded it forward. In looking at it he saw that the bracket that you use to lift the back half was hitting on the front of the cover and would soon scratch or wear through the paint. He put a couple of the clear "bumpers" that you use with bug deflectors on and it didn't hit any more. After some trial and error, I think the best place for them is on the front of the front cover. If you fold the front cover back over the rear cover you can position the "bumpers" so that they stick on the front rail of the front cover and hit the back rail of the back cover. This way they work whether you have the front or the back cover open. I thought this was a great, simple, and cheap idea. I probably would never have seen the problem till it was too late. Bill D.
