skyjet,
Yes I do and I am not sure if that makes a difference or not. Check to see if you have the wiring harnesses and I think you will be set.

Question

mikebourg,

Thanks for the reply. Can you leave the Autolamp switch on so the regular lights come on when it gets dark?

Thanks again,

Skyjet

skyjet,
I can leave on the autoheadlamps and they come on just as they should when it gets dark. The only lights that are on during the day are the headlights at a lowered wattage. The headlights and parking lights come on at night at full power just as they did before the DRL upgrade.

I entered a post Jan. 29th 2001 about a recall on the relay on the daytime running lights. Although I had no problem yet I had it replaced by Ford. They work fine. Maybe that is your problem?

Thad,
There is no problem. I was just explaining how the DRLs work on our US trucks. The DRLs are not offered as an option from the factory. We have to install them ourselves if we want them.

Question

mikebourg,

I appreciate all of your help on this. I think I have one last question. Do you know if I have to install the resistor or not. I'd like to have DRL at full brightness.

skyjet,
I just went out and unplugged the resistor. The DRLs do not work without it. My guess is you could make a loopback cable to bypass the resistor. I have not tried that. I must say that the lights are bright enough for use during the day. Just my thoughts.

Cool

Mike, I went to Baytown Ford and orderder the part no,s, they arrived in about 3 days I installed them last night (super Easy)! Thanks for the good info. Rudy the parts manager at Baytown Ford is Great. If I may add one thing to Your instructions it would be to also purchase a "J"clip and bolt. The small square hole with the smaller round hole next to it is where the clip goes. It is almost impossible to reach down the core support to put the nut on the stainless bolt. For the time being I used a plastic push bolt.

eddiepreston,
I am glad you didn't have problems with Baytown Ford. Both Planet Ford and Tomball Ford harassed me about ordering these parts. It seems if they didn't know about it, it didn't exist. Is it just me or is there too much testosterone behind most parts counters? (No offense to any Ford employees that were not affiliated with my experience!)

I have used www.fordpartsonline.com and have had great service from them. I'm going to order the DRL parts from them. There prices are:

XL3Z-14A601-AA $44.43

YL1Z-13B218-AA $14.30

They didn't send me the shipping cost, but the last order I got from them was $7.00.

They don't have them in stock but estimate shipping in 4 - 5 days. They are located in CA.

Thanks for all of your help mikebourg!!!

Thanks for the compliment XTRUKY. Once I get get the DRL working, I'll be adding that info to my web sight too.

skyjet,
Thanks for the info on www.fordpartsonline.com. I will have to use them in the future. It looks like the price you got is a good bit cheaper than what I paid. Oh well, live an learn!
