Cool

Careful! This topic is prone to flaming and acrimony!

My 2001 Gen II SCrew manual (purchased truck last July) specifies 5W-30 oil, so I am using Mobil 1 5W-30 full synthetic, and either the Motorcraft FL820S or Mobil 1 filters. At some point Ford changed the documentation to specify 5W-20, and there has been much spirited debate on the whys and wherefores of that change. Do a search on the subject and you'll be reading all day.

As Leon said, going by the book. I took mine to the dealer for the very first oil change just last month. They used Motorcraft 5w-20 and Motorcraft oil filter.

For now I'm also going by the book, but I have less than 1k miles. At some point, probably around 5K, I'll switch to full synthetic, 5w-20 Amsoil unless Mobil 1 has something out

I just changed my oil and went with 5-30 mobil one in my 01 screw. I believe the 5-20 is just for mileage help for ford. Think about, or better yet read up on oil ratings and what they mean. Any synthetic is better than ford 5-20 non synthetic any day.

Sorry, dont mean to start nothing. I find it interesting that chevy runs Mobil one in the vettes out of the factory. If I read it right, you also have to continue using it to maintain your warranty. Mercruiser who builds boat engines also factory fills their high perf ones with mobil one. They use the heavy stuff in boats, ie 20/50.
I live in a warm climate area, and I tow a heavy boat in 120 degree heat. I need viscosity. If I lived in the cold, I would maybe reconsider. I will try to post a link or two for some good oil tech articles that might be of interest. I will try later today.

Cool

i use 10-30 mobil 1.. it seems to quiet the engine in the florida heat... i have almost 30,000 miles on my generation 1 crew and the warrenty is not an issue, soon it will be gone anyway...can you imagine getting gas milage from a super crew because of oil viscosity....come on!!!!especially a 4x4... go figure..

Mobil One 5w30 ...the only way to fly. Please consider the test done on a BMW...One million miles with regular maintainance, tore the engine down and all wear parts were within "new" specification. That's lubrication!
