Unhappy Ford Tough?

Was hoping my new SCrew was better than this. Quotes like "The F-150's occupant compartment was destroyed" don't sound very good.

I don't think this applies to the Super Crew. The Super Crew is built from the Expedition platform. That is one of the reason why you don't see Super Crews with the door crack problems

That was UGLY and not a just little scary what happened to the F-150 SCAB in that crash test. Ford said they would take a look at stiffening the front end but also said it was a rare event to crash like that and the truck has done well in real world crashes. That's paraphrasing the Ford media website.

FWIW, in the NHTSA crash tests the F-150 did much better than the other 2 full-size and 1 mid-size truck tested in this IIHS test.

The wife said the guy on TV said the F150 was one of the worse he'd even seen. Apparently he went so far as to say that he wouldn't let his family ride in in and if he had one he'd get rid of it...

The Supercrew IS NOT built on the Expedition platform it is built on the 139" wheelbase

That is unbelievable! The truck looks like a deflatable ballon! This is one time where owning a Toyota wouldn't be so bad after all.

Get it together FORD, this is unacceptable!

Cool

Can't we move this BS to safety/ maintenance?
One test gives the F-150 great marks ... another sez it's a toad.
Would this have any impact
on your decision to buy a truck? What about MPG ?
Or .... "roll-over"? or damage (to other vehicle)
in truck/ SUV collisions ? IF you don't
think you're better off in a big truck than
a small sedan/ coupe - - then buy a Honda
Civic - - we can go 1 versus 1 !!!!
(sorry about the inserted "enters" - - didn't
want this response going 25 inches to the right)

That crash looked horrible, I wonder if welding on a huge steal bumper and grill guard would help?

One reason I didn't choose the supercab is I thought that the door opening is too large to be structurally sound, since it has no B-pillar. Take a close look at the way the supercab's passenger area widened from top to bottom in the crash test. This contributed to the compression of the passenger compartment in the horizontal direction ( a very bad thing). The SuperCrew's/Expedition's B-pillar has to help reduce this effect, assuming it's well attached to the rest of the structure. Question is, does it help enough?

My two cents based on my mechanical engineering experience.

I agree on the structure of the Scab. I didn't like how the doors closed and still seemed loose. When everything is open it is a huge unsuported opening. That's why I bought an 01 HD instead of an 00 HD. Just looked like a more structurely better setup. But then who the hell is going to run into concrete barriers at 40.

Please notice that I have moved EVERY thread, including this one, on this topic to the "Safety" forum where they belong. Please do not start new threads in this forum on this subject or they will be deleted from here on out rather than moved. We do not need 38 threads in 20 forums on the same subject that we all feel is important.
