Advance Cover vs Fold-A-Cover?
I am going to get a 2002 SCrew and I am currently planning the add ons. What do you guys think about these covers, both pro and con and which is the best buy for the bucks? Thanks.
I researched them both and they both look real good. Advanced cover is available for S-crew, check out pictures in other parts of this board. You do need to drill the frame to install however, which I am not sure if I am willing to do.
According to Fold-A-Cover last week, they will not have a model available for S-crew till mid july. Originally was supposed to be in May. If it is now availale please let me know. fold-A-Cover is a clamp on style.
Thanks,

Also, the Fold a Cover will be 4 panels, while the Advance is 2 panels. It will probably be a preference thing that you will get to decide on. They should be the same price range.
I just ordered an Advance cover for $500 including sales tax in Dallas, should get it tomorrow.

Hogan, no, I haven't scooped you on the availability of the Fold-A-Cover--I, too, had heard it would be available in July, which will be in time for my Screw. I also do not relish the idea of drilling holes in the bed rails.
Good luck on Fold a Cover!!!
They told me it would be available last August.

I've got the advance cover on mine and like it. I haven't seen the fold a cover, but I think the panels would be too short on teh SCrew bed. The two panele are very easy to manipulate. Here's a link to my earlier posting with photos (including drilling holes for the brackets). Good luck!

Don't hold your breath for a Fold-a-Cover!!! I was told about 2 weeks ago that the Supercrew cover would be available in early June. The dealer in this neck of the woods indicated they first said March, then May, then June, now you are being told July. Maybe we should be asking which year!!!
The best two retractable/folding hard covers currently available for the Screw are IMO the Advance Folding Cover and the Retrax retractable bed cover.

Advance website http://www.advancecover.com
Also do a search on this forum for Retrax or Advance Cover and you'll find plenty of info and photos. Good Luck!!

Maybe someone with an Advance cover can answer a question for me. How much clearance does the Advance Cover give you inside the bed? I carry racing wheels in the bed and am interested in whether they will fit under the cover. From the photos it looks like it mounts on top of the rails, but I guess I am wondering how far below that the top extends. Also, the rubber seal looks like it mounts on the rail itself rather than on the top. Has that been a problem for anyone? Would it be possible to attach it to the top instead?
ttrew,
I installed the seals per the instructions. Didn't think about putting the seals on the cover. If you look at the photos, the outside seal is a hard and attached to the rail with adhesive tape and small self tapping screws. The inside seal could be attached to the cover. You would need to cut it at the hinge to allow the cover to open and close. It is flexible , attached with adhesive only.
As for clearance, it is flush across the top rails. It is not advertised to be waterproof, but I have found it very difficult to get water inside. Water can come in around the tailgate if you pressurewash or get stupid with the hose.

If you guys are worried about putting screws in the bed of of your truck, do what I did.
I did not use the screws for the hard molding, I just used the self adhesive that was on the molding. So far no problem with lose molding.

StrongWind - I see you have the Bed Extender as well. I assume no issues using it with the Advance Cover? Opens/Closes fine? Can you have the Extender out on the tailgate with both panels on the cover closed? Thanks!
Anyone who wants to order an Advance Cover let me know, my dealer can drop ship to your door for $500 including sales tax.

I thought the installation was easy. If you follow the direction you should not have any problems. Just lay it out and get a feel of where it is going to go before you start installing your weatherstrips. Make sure you center the cove on the bed. I did not install the screws in the hard weatherstrip. I just let the adhesive do it job, so far no problem. The only holes I had to drill was 4 3/16 for the hinge bracket 2 on each side. You will need access to a pop rivet gun.

newtruckforay,
The bed extender works great with the cover. It's nice to be able to open the tailgate and throw something in the back without having to worry about it sliding around as you drive. Very convenient. You could open the tailgate and use the extender with the cover on.
Derek,
Like Scott said, it's not that difficult to install. Would be good to have someone available to help for time to time positioning and moving things around. I would consider paying to have someone install if possible if the price is right. The installer probably gained some "experience" from installing previous covers....Good luck.
