Another S'Crew/Subwoofer... once again
Has anyone..... I mean anyone out there.... been able to fit a subwoofer under the rear seat of the S'Crew, or behind it, by any means, without limiting the ability of the rear seat to fold down? If so.... how was it done?

I am currently working on a sub box to fit 3- 6" or 2 - 8" that goes behind the rear seat(in the cargo area)this will be accomplished by removing the plastic panel(completely) and remounting the fold down covers to the box once it is done.
THe box is 3/4" mdf three sides with fiberglass back against the rear wall. I hope to wrap the two boxes and the amp rack in the center in vinyl once it is done. THis is an ongoing project that will not be done for sometime(taking my time, doing it right!!), but when it is I will post pics.

I'd like to hear a positive answer myself, if anyone's done it. I don't see how tho'.
A sub is gonna require space to work. Since the rear seat folds down and the available space is lost, or at least severely compressed, I don't see how it can be done. Then again, we're an inventive lot!

After much debate myself, I've decided on on 6 1/2" powered SAS Bazooka linked to one passive. I am in the high end home audio/theater business and while it's no earth shaker, it does give acceptable sound and still allow you to move them out into the floorboard area adjacent to the back of the front seats and still fold the seats down.
BTW, thanks to everyone on this Board for all the invaluable information.

A question for you FlyFisher:
Can you hook up a Bazooka subwoofer that is not powered to a 5 channel amp? I was thinking that if the guys at Tweeter couldn't figure out how to put a subwoofer under the rear seat and still be able to close it, I would go with the Bazooka. I guess with an amplified Bazooka, you just have to hook it up and it adds to the factory system. Can it be used off of a 5 channel amplifier so the crossover can be adjusted? That way, I was going to replace the stock speakers, but still use the factory head unit with an amp. I don't need a lot of bass, I just wanted to take the bass out of the four speakers and feed it through the subwoofer. Will the Bazooka be able to handle that?

I know that it has been done. You should be able to find info in the stereo area. I think you need to get a lift kit for the back seat that leaves room for a sub box under the seat while folded.

Grumps, yes I'm waiting on delivery of the RS6AHP which is the 150W/RMS model...it will allow you to run line level in from an amp or speaker level in from the stock head unit. It will also allow coupling with the passive RS604DV (same but without amp built in), this way you decrease the resistance of the load and "increase" the output of the amp in the powered unit. I'm adding a very nice precision power amp and Dynaudio 3way seperates to the stock head unit and CD player...I've done a trial run with the stuf installed on mdf just hanging on the doors and it will do everything I want to in a car.
To take the base out you will need to run a "coil" or a "choke" or a prebuilt crossover....I'd be happy to explain to you if you can't get help. If your amp has a built in crossover you are set, just run the line out or speaker out of the amp to the powered bazooka and you've got bass.
Dscrew, well I see a lot of repetitive topics, sorry if we are bothering you. I still need to be able to fold my seats down without notice and not have to "move" the subs out of the cab so an under the seat box is not an option for me (though if I had to pick one the unit on SUBBOX.net looks like a good one). I keep my winch recovery kit, first aid kit and a spare fire extinguisher behind the rear seats, also my CD changer is on the passenger side. I work way too much to spend my time off fabricating a box behind the seats.
Sorry for the long post..

I would like to know what is so important behind the seat there isn`t a whole lot of room to store things and if your needing to fold the seats down why did you buy a truck I have a box with two 8in subs that can be removed in about 1 minute. This topic seems to never go away
Thanks FlyFishn', and your response wasn't too long at all. Just one follow up...
Let's say I'm getting a 5 channel amp, and four new speakers for the door.... I want to send all of the bass to the bazookas. What are the advantages/disadvantages for each; a powered bazooka, or one that is not powered for such a set up. Also, what exactly will I need to do to be able to pull out the Bazooka so the seat can be folded down? Your help is appreciated.
As for Dscrew, I learned a few weeks back on this forum that what I think an S'Crew should be, is not necessarily what others might think. These are simply personal preferences. I would like to add bass to my stereo. I would also like to keep the full functionality of my truck intact. I posted this question here rather than on the subwoofer or audio forums as this forum is particular to S'Crews, and that is my concern. You might see this issue revisited from time to time because many share my desire in this regard. I have not seen the "perfect" solution, but every week I do see better ones. Should this topic annoy you... well... simply skip over it and move on to more entertaining fare. Better yet, add to the discussion with more positive feedback and go into greater detail discussing how you might have solved this dilemma. But, as you did express an interest, I will attempt an answer to your concerns. I will have leather seats in my S'Crew. If my dog rides with me, it's in the back with the seats folded down. I will also be loading delicate musical equipment from time to time. That's not always going in the bed, even with a lid. Some of it is heavy and I don't want it on my leather seats. I can think of many other reasons, but suffice it to say, my life is different from yours, as are my needs. With all of that said, I want just a little more bass too. And believe it or not.... there are others who feel the exact same way.

First let me tell you how my setup is going to work...maybe that will answer a few questions. I will retain the stock head unit and 6disc cd changer since I personally feel the stock unit sounds pretty good as it is. The front speaker levels coming out of the stock hu will go a speaker level/line level adaptor and then into the line level of a Precision power 4x100 amp that will have the four channels bridged into two. This will go into a crossover for the Dynaudio 3way for the front channels. The crossover will have a coil attached that will eliminate frequencies under 70hz going to the "bass" speaker in the 3way. The line out of the amp will go to one powered bazooka which will in turn be coupled to one passive unit (decreasing resistance to the powered sub's amp and increasing output). The stock hu will drive a pair of upgraded 6x8 rear channels (mainly for "fill"). This is the most economical way for me to get the best sound/$. Again, I've hooked all this up "in trial" and it sounds fantastic.
All that being said....if you are still going to get a five channel amp and the amp can handle the load, I'd buy two passive tubes and run them off the sub output of the amp (that is if the output will allow you to pass "bass" only to the subs and not the entire frequency range). Hook up your other four channels to the other speakers and you are set. If you want to "cut-off" the bass going to those speakers, attach a "coil" or crossover in-between the amp and the speakers. I would do this but I would also want an "overlap" between the cut-off and what I was sending to the bazookas. Since I only have a 4channel amp and I don't want to take up the space with another for the subs, I'm going with the powered unit. Now, if it were me, I'd bridge four of the 5 into 2 channels, power the fronts with the bridged 2, power the sub with the amp also and let the head unit power the rears...just my opinion.
Simply slide them from under the rear seats out into the floorboard area, up against the rear of the front seats. My SCrew is a Gen I with no headrests so I don't know how different seat configurations would change anything.
BTW, because of my business, I have access to really any kind of audio gear. I could have any sub I want but my #1 priority is to be able to fold the seats down at a second's notice and not have to move anything out of the truck or into the bed. The bazooka's fit my needs in that aspect perfectly. The 6 1/2" certainly won't "bang" with the big boys but I have no desire to do that (that's what my 2 Velodyne HGS-18's are for at home) and they do sound very good in the SCrew.
Hope this helps...also open to anyone's suggestions or options if you have any other ideas.

Thanks again FlyFishn'. I was gonna give Tweeter a shot at designing something for the back, but the price quickly got to be around a grand once all the new add-ons were calculated. I don't want the big bang either, so I'll probably head to Circuit City for the Bazookas. Just one more thing.... won't they bounce around under there? Aren't they supposed to be screwed in?
I'm going to use Velcro strapping (available @ fabric stores or Home Depot/Lowes) and will screw two small brackets into the floor that will hold the straps. Definately will hold it tight yet allow 5 second removal....haven't tested this part yet but it should work. I have also thought about putting some pipe insulation (like you would put on your AC line at home) on the bars under the seat to keep the sub from vibrating against them and causing a rattle... don't know if this is necessary until I actually have mine in hand but again...it should work.

I've seen a few different people post that site tfratzke but I've yet to hear from anyone who has tried that ported box for the Supercrew.
I have a pair of 10JLw6s and would like to get a nice box for at least one of them. I don't think ported is the answer though.

I have an appointment on Monday to have a car audio shop(N 2 Audio) install 2 amps, eq & 2 10" comp kickers. I replaced my doors speakes with Blaupunkt pro components & covered the doors with dynamat. Brad (installer) said he can build a sealed box & have the subs down firing. Brad also said that there is plenty of room for a couple of 10`s. I guess I`ll find out tomorrow. If anyone is interested I`ll post some pics after its done.
