gas milage
I've been checking my gas milage on my screw.
In the winter I've been getting 12.5-13.5
in 90% city driving.
It has been climbing during the warmer weather to 14.5-15.8 city.
I filled up today & checked again & I finally broke the 16 mpg mark for 90% city driving.YES you heard it here 16.1 YAHOO!!!
I also drive it pretty hard so it's suprising me too.
I never got this milage with my explorer. The best ever there in the city was 15.5
Not bad for a 5.4 4x4 .

I was experiencing the same mileage in cold weather but on a recent trip of 250 miles when temps were in the upper 50's and 60's I got 16.6 mpg. That made me very happy. Got some more trips coming up and will be anxious to see if the mpg continues to stay above 16 or better as temps continue warm.

On my third tank since buying my SCrew. First 2 weeks was cool, wet weather and an average of 13.6 MPG. This week so far much warmer so we will see. I would like to be closer to 15. That would be nice.

I now have 4000 miles on my SCrew; since the second tank it consistently gets between 16.5 and 16.9 mpg. I can't seem to break 17.0. But considering the size and the power I feel good about that. Now if they could just get my vibration problem fixed I'd really be happy! It's getting a new transmission tailpiece assembly, driveshaft and u-joints today so we'll see.
I am perplexed as to how some of you guys are getting 16+ MPG????
I've been driving ultra conservative to see if it improves MPG...nope still getting around 13-14.
Oh well...but still love this truck!

Just went through the first tank on my truck (it came in last Thursday) and got 15.1 mpg. Having read the mpg worries here, I was pleased to get what I did. It was mostly country driving which I the type driving I do most so hopefully it will get a bit better with age, as I have...

I have noticed significant improvement in fuel economy in the last 3 to 4 weeks. A couple things may have happened...
1 - Weather has warmed a lot.
2 - Fuel additives have changed in the northeast as a result of Spring
On a recent 500 mile trip I got 13.6 on the way out, and 16.8 on the way back. Same roadway, same load, speed, etc., and I personally filled it each time. Only thing I can figure is different fuel additives...any thoughts???

I too have noticed improved mpg on recent trips. It seems the ideal rpm to mph ratio for this truck is 2100 rpm at 81 mph. I monitor this in my boat also to get the best fuel economy in it. The lowest rpm's for the fastest mph. Hey Mr. Bill, Have I passed you at 6:30 a.m. on 95 in N.H. I see an Island Blue Screw about every morning. Or should I say Island Blure.

MrBill, was just thinking about the descrepancy in your milage on that trip and was reminded of when I used to frequently travel from Man.,N.H. to Moosehead Lake in Maine. Always got 15-20% better milage on return trip - took me a while to figure out -looking at elevations it was uphill goin' and downhill comin' back (not to mention that the fish we hauled back weighed considerably less than the beer we hauled up!)
ScrewKing: I don't travel Rte 95 in the morning, and my SCrew is black...so it's a different character that you're zipping by.
maine-s'crew: Good thought on the elevation differences, that's a possibility. Less beer in tow on the way back...that's a fact.
I still think the fuel may be an issue with mileage, but just a guess.......???
