Cool

4x4 Lariat with 5.4
Commuting in the Steel Glacier (rush hour).....and in town on the island...I get 15.....routinely, air is always on..etc.
On the mainland before I put the cap on....I got 18-19 at high way (+) speeds

Only mod is the K&N FIPK.....big change for my S-Crew.....
No complaints with that!

Question

"After installing a bed cover, our mileage jump to 23 highway from 16".

Rob,

What type of cover if you don't mind me asking? Hard or soft? Brand name?

Thanks...

I installed a SportMaster Hinged softcover. Don't think it matters what kind or brand as long as the bed is covered. That tailgate acts like a huge anchor. Cab height shells are even better since they eliminate the low pressure area behind the cab.

Hey, Screking, what kind of gears do you have, 3.55's. I sure can't run 80 at 2100, probably more like 71.

Irutt, yes 3:55 in overdrive with cruise control on. 81 mph @ 2100 rpm. Checked it with my Garmin handheld GPS and was accurate.

My last 2 tanks I have got 16.1 and 16.5 respectively. I am trying to use the cruise control a little more and it does seem to squeeze out a little more mileage. Hope to be at 17 soon ! Anyone know what kind of boost a superchip will give mileage if any ?

I have 2500 miles on my SCrew now. First 1700 was "country driving" with 16.5 mpg average. Just came back from trip to Florida with average highway speed of 75 mph and averaged 17.6 mpg. I installed an ARE Z cap one week prior to my Florida trip. It's about what I expected. Hopefully I'll see a little improvement as it continues to break-in. BTW, the truck has been everything I hoped for. Great ride, adequate power and utility. Looks damn good, too. My wife is laughing at me as I write this! She just doesn't appreciate the finer things of life!

I have about 4500 miles now. From the first tank full until about 3500 miles, I was consistently getting 17 mpg. In the last 1000 miles I've seen a little over 18 mpg. My driving is fairly conservative with about 75% highway miles. The worst mileage was 14 mpg with 2 hours of raceday traffic to cover 8 miles. So far I couldn't be happier with the truck. I haven't done any modifications yet.
