Cool window tint

I want to tint the front to match the back. What tint will match the factory back windows?

Factory tint. Which, of course, we can't get. I looked for a while and couldn't find anything to match it exactly. I ended up going with Madico 35% in the front and it looks really close. Not the same, but closer than I was able to find elsewhere. It really sucks. They should either not tint the windows, or tint them all. Go figure.

Thumbs up

Brother FireFighter

I went with a 20% Smoke on my SCrew and it looks pretty close....although it is illegal here in Texas.

I thought of the 35% but from what I saw it was too light and would be a waste of money.

Check out my pictures and see what you think!

I also went with a 20% tint, which is also illegal here in Georgia. But it looks good - very close to factory.

Just tinted the fronts to match the back on our H-D SCrew. It's not exact from the inside, but outside you can't tell. They're just as dark, but a slight color difference. Instead of standard 35%, find a tint dealer whose clients have lowered cars with 20" wheels, loud bass, megaphone mufflers, etc.

As for the legality, I'm too dark for Virginia, but since they took it out of the inspection requirements, the cops pretty much ignore it. besides, you got that "Badge-Americard"......Rube

Where in Buford are you? I work at the fire station in Buford @ Hwy 20 and 23. Where did you get your truck...Wade? Ordering mine today from Jacky Jones in Cleveland. Neat to see someone from Buford.

ssg57, where did you get your window tint? Did you do it yourself or have someone do it? I live in the Katy area as well and need to get my windows tinted.

I too had the windows tinted at 20% and it looks really close to the rear windows on the Supercrew. The reason Ford can not tint the front windows from the factory is because some states do not allow tint on the front windows at all and Ford fears selling a part that would be illegal in those states even before it rolls of the dealers lot.

Cool

SCOOBY14B,

Hey - I live off of Hamilton Mill Road (near 85). I got my SCrew at Akins. I have been dealing with Brad and Chris Akins for years - they know if they treat customers well that they will return. Got mine in December 2000 and had them put the Lightning front end on it. Then I bought Lightning wheel look-alikes from www.afswheels.com - look identical but much cheaper than the factory wheels. I have always been a GM person and it was tough buying a Ford, but I have not yet regretted doing so. Hope you enjoy yours!!

Thanks for the replies. SSG57, the pics look good. I'm excited since mine looks like yours but solid white and no bars.
I guess when I get my bedliner sprayed in, I'll leave some extra money and my windows will mysteriously come back darker...

moose01,

I had my tinting done at Westside Glass Tint. They are located on Old Katy Rd. @ Brittmore right on the corner. The guy that owns the place live in the Katy area.

FYI: I also had them put a strip of tint across the front windshield where the darker tint is located.....its well worth it I hardly ever use my visors now.

Agree with Lightning Crew and fsufan: It's 20%. I had 3M product applied professionally and I can't tell the difference between the front and back windows. I've got a Black SCrew and the matched tint makes it look really killer!

I just had my front two windows tinted today. They would only do a 35% tint (max legal in AZ), but said that a 20% tint would match the back two windows. Sucks. I would have liked 20% up front, but it still looks pretty good and it's definitely cooler inside the cab (I'm in the desert). Cost $50 and took an hour...

Got a bedliner sprayed in and the windows tinted today. I went the legal route and did the max 27% on the front. It isn't too bad, but there is a difference. It'll take a few days for me to decide.
Wouldn't you know my Retrax cover would come in the day my bedliner is sprayed and I'm not able to get in the bed to install it!
