Supercrew exhaust opinions.
Ok...here's my situation. Fixing to order new 5.4 Supercrew. I want a dual rear exiting exhaist that A) sounds good idling and when you get on it. When I say sounds good, I dont want anything too overly loud but has a nice "throaty" rumble. B) Since it is a supercrew I want it to not be noticable in the cab when cruising. And since there is less wheelbase that isne covered by cab I dont really know what might be best. I was thinking of a flowmaster system but didnt know which muffler...dont know that much about them. Also how much would you expect me to spend. A friend had dual flowmaster put on for $100 plus tips but his is a little too loud. He didnt know which mufflers it was. Thanks for the help.

Scooby,
I have the Hooker AeroChamber with duals out the back. It sounds great...not too loud, not too quiet. I was also concerned about interior noise, but this setup is good. I don't really hear much until I get into it, then it sounds great. I can hear it from about 1500RPM through 2000RPM, or at WOT.
I would recommend this system, but you could also check out the Ravin system. A bunch of guys on this site have that setup.
Good luck and keep us posted on your decision!

I have a Dela Flow 50 on my Crew. It could be a little louder but there is absolutely no in-cab droan. You can really only hear it at idle from behind the truck. At WOT it doesn't even get to loud.
If I had to do it all over again I would probably get the Delta Flow 40.

Have you ridden in a truck with the 40? If so what were the differences? Is the 50 a nice throaty rumble? And does it sound good when you do get on it? How much was it (duals with SS tips?). Is there any way you can make a .wav recording? Thanks and sorry for the 20 questions.

I'm leaning toward a single in-dual out "the @ss" (that's what we called duals in high school) with a Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 muffler starting at the Y (not cats) and going back. Price is $275 (with or without tips I'm not sure yet) from my local Tuffy shop.

No, I haven't had an opportunity to hear a 40, I just would like to have a bit more sound. I'm not sure how much more sound it would produce but I had a two chamber on my '97 5.4 and it sounded just loud enough. I beleive the 50 is a three chamber. The 50 does have a nice rumble but only when you are behind the truck. When you are into the gas it sounds good, but again, it could be a little louder.
The whole system cost $250 with chrome tips.
I don't have the equipment to make a .wav file, sorry! Exhaust sound is so subjective. Even with a wav file it would be difficult to gauge the sound since it depends on how close you are to the exhaust.
My recommendation would be to find a shop run by guys you like and see what they say. Describe what you are looking for and have them drop it in. They may be able to "test-fit" a muffler to see what sound you like best.
Good luck!

I have Flowmasters on my Chevy. I am not sure which "model" they are, but I do know they are the two chamber mufflers. I also have removed the converters, so its true dual all the way out. I have the bazooka tips, which change the sound dramatically. Unless you want loud, I would not recommend this setup. I do know with the converters left on the truck, its not as loud. I personally think its a little loud. But everywhere I go, I get compliments on how the truck sounds. Even when I pull up to a convenient store and go inside. How's that for loud? On my Screw (when I get it), I am going to opt for high flow converters, and single in, dual out flowmasters. I will try the bazooka tips to see if its to loud, but will remove them if they are. The large bazooka tips look great, but they give the sound a totally different sound. Very throaty.

Scooby,
I think the muffler was about $80 and then I had the pipes etc. done at Tuffy for around $160. It looks great. They did a great job tucking it nice and tight against the body.
I can't remember the exact numbers, it was a while ago, but those a pretty close.
I got the muffler from Jegs.
Hope that helps! Let us know what you decide to do.
A lot of guys on here have the FL or the Ravin, but I like the sound of mine a lot.

Scooby14,
I got an XLerator SI/DO HiPo system. 3" Stainless Tips. The muffler is made in Greensboro, N.C. Not many dealers on the West Coast, but should be around your neck of the woods. Nice low rumble at idle, mild interior noise when accelerating, and no interior noise at idle. $400 for the kit...stainless tips...extra. If you wanna feel a true performance gain...add a K&N filter.

I've got the 50's on my SCrew setup as true duals exiting 45 behind the rear wheels. They were quiet at first but they've become a little louder and just perfect for me. They don't drone one bit but if you punch it its all there. On acceleration they give a deep mellow sound. I think this is a bit different result than most due to the true dual setup and the side exit.
