Which bedliner to get?
Any thoughts on who makes a good bedliner at a good price? Also, is it a good idea to wax the bed for protection before it goes in?

it is called a loadlok bed liner. I think it is the best bed liner you can buy. I have 2x4 in the back, and when i go grocery shopping i place the boxes in the back and then I place the 2x4 where the boxes will not fly all around the bed.
I did not wax the bed, I have no theory on this.

I have the bedrug made by wise industries It is available all over the internet. I ordered from a place called goliath accessories I think they are in wisconsin. At the time they had the best price and shipping was included I think.
Anyway I really like the bedrug. I had it in my previous truck and it is great. I believe I paid around $320 for mine and it is well worth it.
I really like if I need to get into the bed for some reason it is very comfortable. I have my ARE Z series top on order and should be in in about 2 weeks and that will really finish off the truck I think.
It is not necessary to have the bedrug in a closed box though. I have had mine in since I got the truck about 3 months ago and it never moves. I have taken several road trip over 75 Mph and never had a problem with it flying out or moving around.
It would be my choice, however If my truck was used mainly as a work truck I would probably go with a spray on liner like rhino linings or something.

I have a Penda Liner installed in mine. It is the second Penda that I have had. The first one's faded a little (started turning a little grey in spots) in the hot southern sun, but other than that is was a good liner. The one I have in my screw is great so far, and was "extremely tight" according to the guy who installed it (this should keep it from rubbing). The cost was around $180. I would rate Penda about a 8 on a scale of 1-10.
Many on this board (and many people I know) recommend spray in liners. If you do that, be sure to investigate who's doing the work (I've seen some pretty ugly liners after a couple years).

I'm using the Ford bedliner and have no complaints. It looks good, I have a 2x6 in the back to keep things from sliding around, it is impregnated with sand type material to keep sliding down (or hurt my knees), and came in at about $200 installed.
I would not use the spray in liner, I am too rough on the bed with rocks and lumber and such and I don't see how that would prevent dents. Plus I believe there in no changing your mind with the spray in.
Just my opinion.

I ended up going w/ a Line-X spray in liner. I like their look and texture the best of any spray-in I've seen (trucks should come like this from the factory IMO). I got it done for $325. If you go this route, there is no prep you need to do to the bed - the installer will take care of everything.
I don't like drop-in's myself (though many do), but I was interested in the Bedrug product for a while. I think the Bedrug is better suited for use w/ a topper or cover than left open to the elements year-round (though some report using theirs uncovered w/ no problems).

I'm going today to pickup the ford bed mat. $400 clams for a liner is too rico for me. If I don't like the way the mat fits, then I won't get it. Maybe a liner one day, but it's a truck and should do just fine. I'll save my pennies for a topper and nerf bars.

I have a Line-X ($370) and love it. I've had drop-in's liners, too. I prefer the spray-on. Doesn't matter how tight the drop-in is, it'll rub the paint anyway over time as the truck flexes/twists over bumps. And dirt still finds it's way under there, usually from the tie-down openings and gate lip. But they're cheaper, of course, and quite durable. I prefer the look of the Line-X: very uniform, not "cottage-cheesy" like some spray-in's can be, and it sparkles with a little Armor All. I've hauled mulch, dirt and (recently) a load of stone. After clean up (hose it down! that's all!!) it's as good as new. No dings or chips. On the other hand, I've got to be more cautious with heavy stuff (like refrigerators and power equipment). IF you drop something real heavy on a spray in, you don't have that plastic to absorb the shock and you may dent your bed. I haven't. But I'm careful!

I had my new Screw bed spraayed with Line-X. I had Line-X in my previous truck (99 F-150) and after two years the Line-X still looked good as new despite hauling all sorts of stuff (lumber, drywall, go carts, wood chips, etc). Line-X sells some stuff called "bed brite" that will renew the finish if it starts looking dull after a couple years. IMO Line-X has a nicer finish than Rhino liner and some of the other spray-in liners. Get the Line-X and if you don't like it you can still install a drop in liner over it and never have to worry about your paint being rubbed off.
For 2 bills you can't beat the dealer-installed Ford/Duraliner bedliner. It fits under the lip, the tie downs are installed over the liner, sandy bottum as stated, and covered under the trucks 3/36 warranty.
And it says Ford on it.

spray in liners are my preference (having also owned trucks with drop in liners and trucks with camper shells and carpet). prevents rust and looks good. the line-x was too "slick" for me and the rhino was too "soft". the speedliner (this is my first) was a nice compromise (about as hard like the line-x, but as grippy as the rhino without being too soft).

Tman - I had a bedliner in the Ranger I used to have. Once a year I would pull the bedliner off and apply an entire can of Paste wax to the bed beneath. Spread it all on and leave it there all white and swirly. When I traded it in at 6 years old, the bed was a little scuffed from the liner, but in very good shape. I intend to do the same with my Screw (when I get one

I had a drop in in my 94 Ranger 4x4 and it was the wrap around type that went over the edge of the tailgate and bedrails. It rattled and was slippery. It tore up the paint underneath and caused rust in the bed due to trapped moisture. This may not be a problem for everyone but up here in New England it is. A little snow in the liner causes condensation underneath. Over time you get rust. A spray in is the way to go in my oppinion. But you need to decide for yourself based on how you will use the truck the most.
