Post Vibration

Just picked-up my new Screw this week and I'm getting a severe vibration (buzz) in the steering wheel at speeds above 65. The vibration seems cyclical in nature.
I did a search on vibration and didn't get much back.
I'm going to take it back to the dealer, but I just wanted to see if this is a common problem that I should be concerned about.

I'm a GM convert and I'm not familiar with Fords *common* problems...

TIA!

None on mine or the other three at work. Let the dealer check it out. It could be a bad tire or balance. Congrats on the new SCrew.

I picked mine up with only 11 miles on it. It was only driven from the railyard to the dealership. I have the damn 17" Goodyear RTS's. Apparently the tires were in balance but "out of round" on the rims. I had my local tire shop take each tire off the rim at least twice and turn to locate the "smooth spot" of the tire. Well this fixed three of the tires but the fourth had to be replaced under warranty. My other problem was that the truck was wandering on the interstate. I had the front end checked and it was dead in alignment. I finally figured out the wandering was due to too low tire pressure. I put in 38 psi and the wandering is not nearly as bad. The dealership should fix your tires but make sure they go the "extra mile" and pull each tire with the problems off each rim until they can smooth it out.

>>MIKEE<< , I have the same problem with the wandering front end. But, it's not the tires. I have played with air pressure to no avail. Then visited the best front end shop. They found the idler arm and pitman arm to have movement. Has been to dealer 6 times. Replaced idler arm, pitman arm and steering box. No luck. Waiting on new idler arm again. But I'm not optimistic. If there were aftermarket parts availabe, I'd fix it myself. If you jack up one side of the front at a time, check the wheel. I'll bet you can wobble it around. Then check the other side and you will find the same. Now put both of those movements together and the truck can't drive straight without wandering !! After 17000 miles, the tires tell the tale. I'm still waiting on a fix..

I had my front end shop check the front tires for any movement. They could not find any play. Do you think that it is perhaps the damn terrible Goodyear tires?

Cool

I cured my vibration by running 38lbs in the tires and by backing out a 1/2 turn on the steering box. The air pressure change really helped (as mentioned by others...)but the gearbox adjustment made the steering wheel dead smooth. I can't figure the air pressure deal as the increased pressure should have made any vibrations even more noticeable. I dunno...

Don't know if it means anything, but I have a 2WD SCrew with BF goodrich tires and have NO wandering what so ever.

I have never had any luck with Goodyear factory tires. I thank GOD mine came with BFG's

I've got the BFG TA's on mine and have no problem. Smooth, quiet, decent grip in the wet. My past experiences with Goodyear tires has not been good. I would trade/sell/get rid of any Goodyear tires on any vehicle I own. I've experienced tires that took excessive weight to balance (yes, the rims were straight) to tires that were so out of round they had to be trashed. Try Michelins or the BFG's that are coming on the new Lariats. I've been very happy with both.
