When I first started looking to buy a screw and went on buyerconnection. com to build and price the vehicle on line, and I was able to build and price it out on line with the 17" wheels, no problem. But when you email this to a dealer, and he goes into his computer to Ford, it comes up that the only way to get the 17" wheels is with the off road pkg on the XLT. I don't know if it is different for the Lariat, I can't see why it would be, the Lariat is basically the same truck with the exception of some interior differences and cosmetics, mechanically they should be the same. Perhaps pkgs are different in the US versus Can., I don't know.At first I thought it was just one dealer doing this, but I had the same reply from 4 different dealers.
I guess ohcanada you will just have to ask your dealer for sure. Have you given any more thought to getting a 4x4? I don't think you will regret it. My '92 4x2 was great 3 seasons out of the year, but winter was a slip-slidin away season unless you loaded down the bed with sand bags. Just my two cents worth. Whatever you decide I'm sure you will love your truck.

I think having to order the ORP to get 17" wheels came out within the last few months.
The reason I am saying this is last fall when we test drove one it had 17" wheels and no ORP. Ford apparently changed this for this year.

I stand corrected. The Ford pamphlets I have don't show the 4x2 XLT as being able to get 17" wheels as an option. It is standard on the Lariat.

As far as getting a 4x4 or 4x2, I'd look at how many times you've actually needed a 4x4 in the past. In my case, I'll be moving back home to Cape Cod soon and I've decided it isn't worth the slightly poorer ride, gas milage, and reliability associated with the 4x4. Besides adding weight to the bed, I was thinking of snowtires. Wouldn't leave them on all winter, just install them when needed.

Screw is "on the ramp". Any day now!
