Question Gas Cap....

Hey guys...I was told that on our 2001 SuperCrews, that if the gas cap was left off the truck would not start!

Just filled up the Crew last night, left the cap off and started up the truck....what gives?

I was never told anything like that, plus the manual doesn't mention it either I believe.

I have the owners manual on my computer. I ran a word search for the fuel cap. No mention of the engine not starting. The manual does say that the Service Engine Soon/ Check Engine Indicator may stay on if it is left off. Also, there is a warning about using the correct cap, or dammage may occur.

I think it is from the Ford web site where you can download the manual in PDF format.
PDF is Adobe Acrobat - you have to have the Adobe program to read the manual once you download it. Adobe can be downloaded for free also.

Cool

I think it will start, it will just generate a check engine light from the OBD crap. It will go away after a while if you put it back on.

I just bought mine yesterday and the post above is correct. It will probably generate a "Check Engine" light after a little while. Since the fuel tank has its own monitored environment from the computer, the extra air inflow will cause the engine light to come on (at least it should according to the dealer I bought mine from). After you put the cap back on, the light should go back off.
