Thumbs up Radar Detector.......................

Anyone using the BEL 980 or 950 detector?

Needing to get a radar detector, but don't want to fork out the $ for a Valentine.

Did see a survey which showed the BEL outperforming the Valentine.

Appreciate any comments.

Cool

Ironman,
Screwcop will get you eventually. However, he won't get you everytime if properly equipped.
I squeeled like a pig when my wife bought me a Valentine, I now have one installed in all our autos. The BEL's, Escorts etc. have been sent to the garbage can after owning a Valentine.
It will pay for itself!

Hey Screwcop:

You would give a ticket to a fellow supercrew owner?

So sad!

Hi ironman,

I wouldn't own anything but a Valentine 1, and I've owned a number of detectors. Nothng else compares in the real world when trying to avoid rader, laser, etc., in my humble opinion.

In all the Car & Driver tests over the years, the Valentine 1 units have always outperformed any others, and I have to say that my experience would tend to confirm their results.

If you have to save longer to get the Valentine, do it, you'll be so glad you did, we sure are!

Best of luck whatever you decide,

It's much cheaper to go with the flow, the nice views along the road and some nice tunes on the radio, rather than having to look over your shoulder, up the on ramps and behind everything a cop can use to hide.

I've been pulled over numerous times, when I was younger, and found that it got to be expensive paying the tickets and trying to hope the insurance company doesn't do a spot check of your drivers license. In fact back when I was 22 years old I was paying $2300 per year for insurance, this was 18 years ago when I wasn't making a whole lot of money.

Instant on radar is a great thing for police. Almost gives us an unfair advantage! And I probably would not give a speeding ticket to a Supercrew owner, as long as they weren't being reckless. I am more likely to give a speeding ticket to anyone I catch speeding (14+ MPH over the limit) and they have a radar detector. For those of you who think that is wrong remember what someone buys a radar detector to do. They are trying to beat me. I don't like to lose.

I would recommend to anyone to just go with the flow and enjoy the surroundings.

And Philly, I love the quote.

Thumbs up

I think the best detector on the market is some hotshot laying into it about 100 yards ahead.

Sorry ironman, I certainly wasn't refering to you. What I was trying to say is no detector is going to work 100% of the time for the owner however, it does work 100% of the time for the guy laying back behind the owner.

I grossly exceed the limit only when I 'think' I need to (and I'm usually wrong about that) otherwise, I let someone, anyone, go a little faster up ahead. I watch the ramps and back door carefully making it a practice to drive by my wits. If I did own a detector it would make me sloppy and it would only be a matter of time.

Here in VA detectors are illegal anyway and now we have the 'Bear In The Sky'. I go to the track to get speed out of my system and plan trips in a way that won't affect my blood pressure.

I'm a more compassionate driver now that I have a daughter out there somewhere driving and old Honda that can't get out of it's own way.

Still,
everyone who passes me is a maniac and
everyone I pass is a moron.

What do you think of the new Uniden 767 or 777? I am just wanting the detector for fun..not using it to speed.
