Post Harvest Gold Paint Flaws

I have a Harvest Gold SCrew and have my second box on it. The first one had terrible paint flaws. It looked like someone took and brushed up against the back of the truck on both sides just under the tailights. My dealer tried to fix it and botched the job terribly. I told him to fix it again and when I went in today there were a host of different flaws. I applaud his attempt to appease me as he had taken the whole box off of another gold truck and put it on mine. The only problem was that this one had flaws too. On the left rear corner next to the tail light, it looked like someone took a brush with paint on it and flung it at the truck. There are big globs of paint on the rear corner (after looking at it even the body shop manager agreed that it looked pretty bad and he would not accept it either). There are also some small paint chips mixed in the paint in other locations. All of the flaws are around both tailight assemblies. Does anyone with a Harvest Gold SCrew have any paint flaws in that area, or am I the only one unlucky enough to get two bad beds on my truck? If you have ordered a Harvest Gold truck I would suggest that you look at the rear tailight assemblies very closely for paint flaws.

I have a white Screw, and have found only a minor "flaw" around the tailight assemblies. Both sides have the appearance of having been sprayed rather heavily and the paint trailing, and drying in a dripping fashion about a half inch. It doesnt really show on the white thank goodness and doesnt bother me, all that bad. Must be something in the way they spray the beds. They could be using the same machinery tooled for the Stepside version of the f150 Supercabs??? But the corners are still the same on both vehicles-it is the wheel wells that are different. Who knows why the spray is heavier around them corners?

I will tell you to be careful if you try and mess with that paint anywhere along the box! The paint and bed are very susceptible to scratches that will not come out. Any scratch on that bed side will go deep.
I had a friend rub against it putting something in the bed, and the scratch will not come out. It is almost like the paint is still soft! Once again- thank goodness for the white.

ALWYSL8,
My harvest gold S-Crew has no paint flaws.

SurfinCowboy,
I had my truck at the Rhino Bed Liner dealer a few days ago and he pointed out that the bed is a new panel system. I had noticed it but didn't think much about because it's a new model plus it's my first Ford. If you look at the front corners on top by the rail protectors you can see how the panel separates (also noticeable in the rear when the tailgate is down). He said this was done to make them easily replaceable in the event of damage and also mentioned they were "FIBERGLASS", though I'm skeptical of that. Does your scratch show through to metal? Maybe it is fiberglass based on these paint problems and your deep scratch. I still think it's metal though!

I have a silver and blue (accent) super crew which I just bought. I have also noticed that there have been some paint flaws. Over the passengers side front wheel there is a paint bubble and on the roof there are big gobs that look like painted over grease. Also on the bed there is a spot that looks like it has been dented but no such dent exists. The paint is playing a trick on my eyes.

Should have kept my 98 Z 71, it looked as good or better than my Ford! First time Ford buyer, LOVE the truck but FORD CAN NOT PAINT!!!!!!!!!!! My truck looks good now, but has been repainted, buffed all over, should not have these problems on new trucks. Now on sunny day you can see gray primer, where they(FORD) buffed off the paint! Back to the Ford body shop it will go! Be sure everyone calls in, and writes a letter to Ford! Maybe they will give us extra warenty on the paint since the paint on a FORD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's strange...my 99 F150 Deep Wedgewood Blue has the best paint I've ever had on a new vehicle. It is shiny and flawless, no orange peel, and is extremely tough. After 2 years I can count the rock chips on 1 hand, and here in CO they put gravel down on the roads. I hear the rocks hit, but after I wash I don't see any chips.

I was thinking of trading in for a Screw, I guess I will have to really examine the paint. Do you think it's Ford's paint process in general or just specific to the beds of Screws?

Question

2XF150, do the screws really have fiberglass hoods? My '99 hood is aluminum. At least I think it is. A magnet doesn't stick to it and underneath I think I can make out the word 'Budweiser'.

Question

Does anybody know if the problems with the Harvest Gold paint is just with the application process, or is it the actual paint itself that is the problem. I have the two-tone paint with the HG on the bottom. Has anybody had problems with their two-tone HG? What should I watch out for or look for?

FWIW, the hoods on all '97+ F-150/250LD/Expedition trucks (no matter what cab) are aluminum. The bed sides of Flareside and SuperCrew are made from sheet-molded composite (basically a form of fiberglass).
