Post beds fiberglass?

Are the beds on the S Crew fiberglass? My buddy had someone back into his new screw and it looks like it is made of fiberglass...the right rear fender behind the wheel and under the taillight cracked bad...

The outer shell is a composite (or plastic?), the inner shell is steel. Why? So it won't rust. That's what I heard.

The SuperCrews are the same as the all of the flaresides. I have a big gouge on the side of my bed that looks terrible no matter how hard I try to touch it up. That's the bad part.

The good part is that if someone bumps you it will not dent (if they bump you hard enough it will crack, though.) I had an old lady bump the side of my truck near the step on the passenger side of my flareside and it left no damage.

I think they went with fiberglass composite for 2 reasons:
1. No rust
2. Easier to mold to the contours of the flareside and SCrew beds.

Cool

After reading these comments, I went out with my handy dandy magnet and sure enough, the hood and bed side panels are fiberglass. Guess we don't have to worry about the rear fender sides rusting out like you see on so many cars and trucks. I don't think I would have ever noticed it wasn't steel if I hadn't read these posts.

The hood is actually aluminum, not fiberglass. FWIW, aluminum won't attract a magnet, just like fiberglass. The bedsides are a "sheet molded composite" on flaresides and SuperCrews, a composite that is very much like fiberglass but formed differently.

Your Screw bed parts should look similar to these...my supercab was rear-ended and the fiberglass fenders were cracked by the bumper. They had to be replaced.
