Thumbs up Installed new speakers

Because I'm trying to save most of my extra money for performance mods, I decided not to completely replace the "premium" sound system in my Screw. Instead, I bought a pair of Boston Acoustic RC620 components for the front and a pair of BA RX87 (5x7) two-ways for the rear. They were able to mount the 1 inch crossover tweeters in the door directly adjacent to and slightly above the 6 inch mains (in the 10 o'clock position), keeping them both behind the stock speaker screen.

The difference, even with the factory head unit, is night and day! I'd highly recommend a speaker upgrade to anyone who wants to improve the sound but not spend an arm and a leg to go all the way.

hi CACeeJay --

this is good to hear... I stuck with the regular single cd stereo on my order and i have been looking at sound upgrade options... subs don't seem possible without a head unit upgrade. how much were the speakers you got and where did you have the work done? we're in the same general area.

thanks,
Wes

Sounds like a great upgrade to the speakers CACeejay....

I am going to install the Polk Dx7's in my Supercrew...just looking for the best price right now (Front & Back).

I hear the Polk Dx7's are also a great speaker upgrade and a are getting good reviews on this web site!!

I second that, CACeejay!

I installed a set of Boston Acoustics RC61 components in the front, and they made a big difference. I also added an amp later, and that also made a huge difference. I still have the stock rear speakers & head unit/CD player. The only other thing my setup needs is a sub.

See my website for pics of the install (I put them in myself). I would definitely recommend upgrading the stock speakers to every F-150 owner.

CACeeJay

Did you add an amp to push the BA speakers?

I had been consideringg the Boston FX 8 because I was afraid the factory unit would not being able to drive the RX87 speakers.

Thanks,
Tim

Cool

Pesos...

Did the whole deal at Good Guys-Serramonte for $650 out the door. This included "custom" installation, a set of dynamats for the front doors, the components were ~$299 a pair and the rear two-ways were ~159 a pair.

Tim56Ford...

The sales rep told me that I would get better sound with an amp and that it would be most effective at the low and high ends. Since low-end for me usually means kids in the car or other passengers, I'm not too worried about getting the "ultimate" in sound quality at that volume level. As for the high-end, about 60% of full volume on the current head unit is about all I can stand anyway,so...I must be getting old. My only complaint is that I would like to have more bass. Not like a boom-box car, but more than the present setup gives me.

CACeeJay,

20 yrs ago I probably would have wanted as much bass as possible and as loud as I could get it I guess that is why I have trouble hearing all of the tones now :-).
As for now I do not want to thump the cars next to me but I do want more bass than what the factory speakers are delivering. I had been leaning to your setup but the sales guy at HiFi Buys suggested going with the cheaper speakers unless I was going to put an amp in to drive them. I am just not wanting to put more than $500.00 in at this time.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim...

I agree. I bought the more expensive speaker setup because I will eventually buy an amp and a small subwoofer...just not this year.
