In another thread (which one it was eludes me) another member mentioned that the governor was set at 95 mph? Is this not true then, or does it depend on the year? I have a 2001 SCrew, but have not pushed it past 80 yet. Just got it last week and haven't had the time to really take it out on the highway much.

I cruised my SCrew all the way across Oklahoma at 80-90 MPH on one trip, and had it up to 100 once, just to see if it would. Other than those few times, I drive no more than limit plus 5.

IMHO, driving much faster than about 80 in a truck that tall and that heavy is just asking for trouble, and is WAY too much excitement for me!

Just my $.02!

We don't have the police interceptor Tahoe's do to the fact that up here some of the roads and the snow, a 2wd truck is not "cost effective" (a common term with police equipment bought by city governments). We have the 4wd versions but they do pretty well.

I have driven the Tahoe's at a test facility nearby when we were testing them for use, and they would scream on a track, handle as well as a 97 Vic, but I doubt the 00 Vic. They were much better than the old "whale" (Caprice). I loved them though.

Cool

OK guys...lets talk Canadian Trucks for a minute!

2001 Supercrew XLT 4x4 (4.6L) 17" x 10 spoke wheels, deep wedgewood blue/silver, towing package with limited slip diff, captain's seats, keyless entry, full tank of gas.

I Paid $37,400.00 (Cnd $) They also had my old truck sold when I came to pick up my new truck...the Supercrew was on the lot, no wait, no stress, no ****ering....and I love the 4.6L triton. I believe they had ordered a half dozen of these trucks with the same options on them (different colors though).

They gave me $8,500.00 for my old 1991 F150 XL, 4x4, 302, automatic plain jane truck wich work out to a cool $28,900.00 after everything was said and done.....perfect I thought! The truck is now 10 months old and has never missed a beat and gets better with age!

I had my truck up to 100 once and occassionally I do 90mph. I usually travel on the highway at about 80 to 85mph and average 12.5 mpg with some mixed surface road driving.

I too wear blue at work. The last 4x4 we had was a 1986 Ford Bronco that was confiscated and painted to be a patrol vehicle. Our department is way behind the times.

I don't think Ford has to give us a bigger engine, they should just give us something better than blue painted TAXIS. We get almost the exact same package as taxi cabs.

Ford ought to give us the Lincoln engines, Double overhead cams and whatever else they get. Our 5.4 Screws have 260bhp while the Navigators 5.4 dbl over head cam puts out 300bhp.

Screwcop, We still have a couple of the Caprices, but they are falling apart. I agree though, they were the best patrol car made. Nothing is better than having a patrol car with 280 hp, compared to the 220 hp CrownVics.

Though I saw in the most recent MotorTrend that Ford now has the Black Hawk Crown Vic with get this...230 hp. Please, Ford, give us a car with at least 260,,,maybe a 5.4..The article said Mercury Marquis was going to come with the 5.4, so maybe, just maybe, a new police package is on the way...

Sorry eveyone about the wishes of having a better patrol car...it would make it easier to catch up to all you speeders..

Take care,
Az

Ps: Screwcop or anyone other PD guys out there, do any of you guys use the pocket sized spike strip, called the RAT TRAP II. If so can you send me an email at azambonin@ci.fremont.ca.us please. Our department has bought 50 sets, and I have to write the policy on using them. thanks

Red face

Vesjas, that sucks you get the taxi package, out here in California all Crownvics are police packages. Since we use black and whites, (as all police cars should be) we get our supply from CHP. Then each department can tune the car for city use or hwy use. Highway use usually means they bump up the top end speed to around 140 mph.

Personnally, the Cobra engine is what all crown vics should have, then we would have nothing to complain about!!

Hey one50npump, lose some weight off your rig, and you could keep up with the patrol cars. And at least people get out your way when rolling code 3,,no one wants to be a hood ornament for you,,,for us, they stop in front of us, and look at us like "what do you want me to do?"
A .50 cal hood ornament would take care of those idiots.

Drive safely. Oh, and those Texas ***@##les escapees who killed the cop, do us all a favor, KILL YOURSELVES NOW like your one partner did, because if any of us catch you, you will have several extra body holes you weren't meant to have.

Az

Well, actually it goes fast enough for me, the faster ya go the harder it is to stop that monster. I only have a small stretch of interstate in my area where I can even think about going 65.. Generally 40-45 mph is about the fastest I ever get.. But i'll be sure to mention your loosing weight comment as I push the captain out... sorry boss, just dumpin weight.. They dont get out of my way much better either, but I gotta make my "work" truck last for 9 more years (till it makes reserve status) so I try to baby it.

Az, We get our's on the police interceptor package also, but that only gives about 15 hp over grandpa's Vic LX. I heard through the vine that Ford is thinking about another Mustang pursuit car that will use the
Cobra R (massaged 5.4, ind. rear susp). If that happens, maybe the same motor will come open for the police interceptor Vics. We can only pray to the blue light gods, I guess! (Or I guess red lights in Cali).

By the way, good call on the remaining two of the Texas seven. A very TIMELY and FORTUNATE death for them would be nice. Saving the taxpayers of Texas some money for all the trouble would be added benefit.
