Post Clear Tail Lights -- The Answer

Thought I'd post this separately, since it's a different answer than on the ongoing thread, and wanted to make sure it was seen by the original poser of the question. You see, I think there's an answer (legal) for those of us who want clear taillights on our Screws: the new Lightning taillights.

I saw the picture of the new Lightnings, and one of the improvements for '01 is a really nice looking taillight -- mostly clear, but with one small red reflector panel. Very Euro looking. Sure enough, the counter guy at Truck Toyz agreed that that would be the only legal way to go. He also checked all his suppliers and found that there are not aftermarket versions out yet, nor are the Ford parts themselves yet available. It shouldn't be long, though, and I, for one, can't wait.

Cool

Longtime, sounds good, and legal since it is coming from the factory and meets all the correct specs. How much did they say it would be??

Az

I took a look at the photo's in the 2001 lightning SEMA show page located on this web sight, and the reflector is there all right. So everyone who wants the white tail lenses, there is you way to do it "legally".

Hey, aren't our tail lights the exact same as the flareside f150? If that is the case, by them. (Have a look at the online store, there are two different styles of clear taillights for the flareside bed, and they sure look like my taillights.

Screwtoy, those are illegal,,check the other post on "supercrew white tail lights", I explain there why those items are illegal, and should be marked for "show use" only. I still need to send a message to f150online about that.

First off, I never said anything about them being legal or not (really the whole legality of them is a crock anyway. Hey, do you know that in some states that if you change the suspension from factory it is illegal, again, what a bunch of B.S.) Anyway, all I was pointing out is that our taillights are the same as the flareside F150 trucks. And while there are not any companies that sell taillights for S.Crews, you can buy them for the flareside.

Red face

Screwtoy, you sound angry..The reason I brought up the fact the after market lights are illegal is because of the original post concerning someone wanting to purchase clear lenses.

So you think the reason is BS for being illegal. Well I could give about 100 reasons why, but I'll give you one of the easiest.

If you were to put these clear tail lights on your truck and you were involved in a rear end crash, (you being hit) you could be found as a "contributing factor" to the crash. Then when the other person sue's you because you do not have the proper lighting on your vehicle and you loose big $$$$, you might change your mind.

The point you made about some states making it illegal to modify your suspension, I saw something similar in a sport truck magazine that said that "law" was not passed, due to the help of SEMA. If your sure it is a law, please let me know what state it is.

stay safe,

Longtime, somethings should be kept between people in the same profession. I'll tell you this, It happens to everyone at one time or another, not just cops. Maybe someday I'll share the story.

Hey guys, not angry at all. Look, read the first post :
"Thought I'd post this separately, since it's a different answer than on the ongoing thread, and wanted to make sure it was seen by the original poser of the question. You see, I think there's an answer (legal) for those of us who want clear taillights on our Screws: the new Lightning taillights.

It shouldn't be long, though, and I, for one, can't wait."

We already had a post about the 'legal' issue. This was another post from someone else about keeping it legal (possibly), all I did was mention that the tail lights were the same as the f150 flareside (I believe they are, and no one has corrected me yet). That's all. For my VERY MINOR rant about it being BS....I did not realize how touchy people would be. I was not ripping on anybody. Look, I think it's great that you are a police officer, but pulling people over and giving them 'intake violations' seems a bit much to me. Since it is an offense against "CARB", and you vehicle has to pass emissions' tests, don't the testing places enforce those laws (sure people can change back and forth etc) but I just though that you would have so many other things to do than to pull someone over and make them open their hood and let you check for a CARB sticker on their intake. Again, nothing angry or personal towards you, just seems like there are better things you could be policing.
That's all
