Question inventory or factory build?

well it looks like i'm going forward with the truck (damn i'm excited)...

a local dealer has almost the EXACT truck i would order, except that they have added the off road package. is this what takes the mileage down to 13-17?

anyways, it is a black Lariat 4x4 with front bench (generation III), moonroof, tow group, and cab steps.

basically exactly what i'm looking to get except that i probably would not order the offroad package (can someone help justify that for me, when i know i'll hardly ever be offroading -- I go to Tahoe a lot but that's about it), and i wanted tubular steps rather than factory ones.

I was originally thinking about getting black/silver two tone but if I take this inventory one i guess I could just get the wheel well flares and bumper painted, yeah?

anyways, any comments/suggestions on this inventory truck vs. factory build would be great...

Thanks!
Wes

p.s. - the dealer truck has the cd changer, which i also don't want... would they be against pulling it? i assume it could go in any other truck right?

I was in a very similiar situation. I knew exactly what I wanted, but no one had it. The same thing happened back in 1989 with my last truck. Both times I ordered what I wanted and waited. Was not disappointed in 1989 and have driven my E-150 to this day. My new Screw is due for delivery week of 1/29. I really think it is worth the wait to get things just as you want.

Also, the dealer should be able to give you a better deal on an ordered vehicle since the cost of floor planning is zero. I managed to get my Screw at invoice. Dealer is still making a reasonable profit.

Hope this helps.

The weather here has been REALLY crappy this winter and I couldn't (didn't want to?) wait 12-14 weeks for delivery of a factory build truck. The dealer that I went through found a inventory truck will all of the options that I wanted (+offroad pkg) except one. Color. I want the new truck bad enough to settle on the color (my 2nd choice). Figured that I could settle on that.

I was in the same boat as you. It had the offroad package, but I didn't really need it. I couldn't resist. Now I am thinking about taking offroading up as a hobby. Might as well use it if I got it, right? Never gave much thought to it before, but it sounds like a blast.

I paid invoice for mine + free transportation costs from the dealer who's inventory it is in (about 250 miles away). Good luck to you. Hope you like yours as much as I think I will like mine.

You can stand tall at the local truck-stop (and the CD changer-equipped radio rocks -- more power).
