Would you be able to offer an explanation as to what you did? The Pics came out very large, and it looked like there was an extra piece on there, but how does it prevent cage theft?
Thanks.

It appears that the added "leg" would prevent the cargo cage from being pushed downward to remove it from it's pivot studs, providing the cage is inside and the tailgate is locked.

crewchief is correct.

I drilled a hole in the bed extender and used a 3" carriage bolt, aluminum spacer and attached the bolt using a threaded rubber bumper on each side of the extender. The bolt almost hits the bed so the hardware can not be unfastened when the extender is in the closed position.

Here's my fix for locking the unit in place whether it's folded away with the tailgate closed and locked OR in use with the tailgate open....

Drill a hole on each side so that when the shackle is inserted, it prohibits the 'spring latch' from being depressed!

Harvest Gold Lariat Screw w/ SuperChipped 5.4L, 4X4 package, towing package, captain's chairs, moonie, slider, 6cds, Westin grill, Explorer driving lights, Husky floor liners, DashMat, DuraLiner and Bed Xtender.

Got my Bed Xtender aftermarket (less than $200) and installed it myself. After reading these posts I checked mine for security. The opening on the bracket faces up on my model but the plastic fitting is designed so that the Xtender cannot be removed while the tailgate is up. Fortunately, it also locks on the Screws!

Sorry, it was the "Bed Xtender" offered in Cabela's catalog. I bought the *full sized* model and had to cut off about six inches from each tube to make it fit. The cutting is anticipated in the instructions.

CASUPERCREW,

What is the diameter of the carriage bolt and can you get the spacer and the threaded bumper at a Home Depot type of place? How long is the spacer?

Thanks www.over.to/SuperCrew

Skyjet,

I forgot to mention previously that this set-up is in both sides of the extender.

The carriage bolt is 4" L x 3/16" D. (I changed out the 3", you may have to cut the 4" a little so the extender folds smoothly.

The spacer is 1-1/4" long.

The threaded bumper can be purchased at your local hardware store. I got mine at ACE Hardware. The aluminum spacer may be a problem. Mine were left over from an air filter kit for my Harley. I would have probably used a piece of pipe and a washer in lieu of the spacer.
