Ford/Duraliner Installation (has anyone done this ?)
I've ordered the Ford/Duraliner drop-in bedliner and will pick it up or have it installed Saturday. From reading previous posts, this is the only drop-in liner that has the tie-downs (front and rear) bolt THROUGH the liner. The dealership wants $50.00 to install. It doesn't seem like there's much to it but how many times have I said THAT at the BEGINNING of a project.
Has anyone done the install on this product themselves, and were there any complications ??
PS. I've had the truck for two weeks and pulled my first stranded off-roader (chevy silverado up to his axles in sand) out of the sand last weekend while in Lake Havasu, Az.
The SCrew popped him out like there was nothing on the other end of the tow strap.

In my area, Ford was running a promotion of free duraliners so I had one installed prior to delivery. The tie downs are indeed usable. The liner has cut out areas for them to stick through. I can't tell if the tie downs had to be removed to get the liner in or not. The liner also has a ruff texture (like sand) on the bed so it may help things from sliding. I haven't carried anything yet to see if it really works. My SCrew is only 3 weeks old with about 550 miles on it. So far it's been great and I haven't found a thing wrong to complain about.
I watched as they put mine in. I had them put it in over a bedsaver pad, and watched him cut the holes out for the bed extender. It was something I could have done myself, but I would probably have regretted it after. You may wish to shop dealers--mine was w/o labor when I bought the truck.
Quality is very good, but I sometimes think about the bedrug too. I'll probably go with some outdoor carpet to make it easier for the dog to walk on...

What a coincidence that you would ask this question today! I just picked mine up this afternoon, and attempted to install it this evening. It should be pretty easy and straightforward, but I ran into two problems.
The first problem is one that has been mentioned in here before (I was going to try to find the post when I saw yours). It is that the sides are too short to tuck up under (behind) the plastic bed rail caps.
The second problem is that the holes, to use to re-attach the tie-dows, don't match up! I just left them out for this weekend, and will have to try next week to get this mess straightened out. Deer hunting the next four days precludes me from taking care of this before then.
Aside from these problems, it looks great in the bed, and is pretty much a permanent installation because it is such a tight fit. The liner I had on my Ranger could be taken out in about 30 seconds. This one would take about 15 minutes and a lot of cussin' and sweatin'.
Short answer, it's a very tight fit, and you'll definitely appreciate having a helper. Right now, $50.00 isn't sounding too bad to me!.

I just saw a couple of posts that were written while I was writing my previous one.
The instructions, that come with the liner, show using the small holes in the liner sides, and longer screws (provided with the liner) to re-attach the tie-downs. It seams that some dealers must be just cutting out holes to make the installation easier.
If you see the instructions, you'll see they aren't meant to be cut out. The $50.00 is sounding even better now!
tom & dtrosh, do the sides of yours fit up behind the bed rail cap? Actualy between the metal of the bed, and the plastic cap? Again, the instructions show that as the proper method.

I had my liner installed, didn't have a choice really, it was just part of of the cost. But I had to have a new one put in because the old one was cut wrong. I watch the tech do it that time. First you take off the tie downs. (do it with a cordless drill/driver with a torx bit) Then put the liner in the bed from one side of the truck, the front should be riding on the front bed wall, then slide the liner in on an angle, forcing the one side under the rail. Then drop the rest of the liner in, sliding it the same direction as you were. Using your knees, (Kind of like bumping carpet) you force the opposite side as far down in the bed as possible, and place the that part of the liner under the rail. (The best bet is to lift the liner up in the middle of the bed, forcing the walls to bow out) You'll more than likely need a large screwdriver to finish putting the rest of the liner wall under the rail. (Make sure you have vinyl tape to place on the end of the screwdriver to save on scratches.) After you have the liner in, adjust as necessary until the holes for the tie-downs line up. This really shouldn't take more than 30 mins. Good luck!

I had my liner put in by a different dealer than where I got my truck. My dealer didn't have any in stock, and I didn't want to wait. It took them only 45 minutes, from the time I arived at the dealer, to the time I left. Cost was $190 + 49.95 to install. It was well worth it to me to have them install it. It fits like a glove. I was really concerned about the tie downs, because when I had called around to other dealerships, one told me that the liner has cutouts to go around the tie downs. Which I didn't like. The guys who put mine in, removed the tie down then put them back on through the liner. Really clean looking. The other thing is that for the tailgate piece, they use the existing screws points to hold that on, except the replace the screws with black ones to match.
I'm glad I went with this liner. I didn't have a choice to go with a spray-in liner, because the nearest place that does it is approx. 2 hours away.

I have the liner in question. It's great for all the reasons listed above; tiedowns over, existing tailgate holes, sandy floor, fits over the front rail, and fits tight way up under the lid. Cost was $200 installed, not an option to do it yourself.
1 Illinois Screw,
I've heard people say here before about the liner that was too short was a design mistake and they returned it for a new one. Might want to go that route.

Thanks Everyone for all the great feedback !
I'm in the process of counting the votes as to whether or not to have the dealer install it or do it myself. In the event of a close vote, I'll submit the question to all members from the great state of floriduh so that I can begin planning my transition to a 2005 model year supercrew with bed-liner once the decision has been made. hehe

DD,
I agree with K-15. Same price and all here in FL. Hell, it was practically installed when I loaded it for the drive home from the Ford store. Though I did not install a "bed saver" mat, etc., I did wash the bed and the bedliner's back-side down before installing it to prevent any possible abrasives from being "installed" with it. All the tie downs lined-up perfect and the fit is excellent! Cutting holes for the extender should be easy...measure twice - cut once!

Glad you are enjoying the new ride. I bought my Duraliner at Quality Bumper in Mesa. It is identical to the Ford Duraliner except it doesn't say Ford on it. I bought mine there because it was much cheaper, and they only charged $20 to install. You can do it yourself, but you need a Torx wrench, I don't know the size, for the tailgate screws. The only tricky part is slipping the liner under the bed rails. The guys at Quality just used flat stick to pry the rail up and slid the liner under it. All of the holes for the tie downs and bed extender were pre-cut from the factory. Good luck!

I got another new Ford/Duraliner put in today. This one fits perfectly! It, like the other one, was a little tough to get in, but it now looks great.
The one that didn't fit right was manufactured last month. Apparently they're having a problem with some of them still being trimmed wrong during manufacturing.
Thanks for all the information from you guys who have 'em. It gave me plenty of confidence to know it didn't fit right. The dealership wasn't aware of the problem previously, but they were very helpful.
After installing the first one TWICE!, and now this one, I know that I won't be taking it out unless it ever needs to be replaced...lol.
