Post New Interior

I just got my Screw, and it came with the new interior. Some things you all should know:

1) The rear seats do, indeed, have headrests. But it doesn't end there (good and bad).

2) In the old interior, ordering captains chairs also meant that you would get a rear seat fold down armrest in the center. That is no longer the case. There is no fold down armrest in the new interior back seat.

3) In the old interior, the captain's chairs had spindly arm rests, and a wimpy center console. In the new interior, there are NO armrests. Instead, the center console is much beefier, and acts as the support for your arm.

4) In the new interior, the seats are VERY firm (my wife says they will break in over time). But they are also more contoured, and very supportive.

It sounds like they put the Expedition front seats in, because they do not have armrests either. Now if Ford would wise up and put the Expy center console in as an option instead of us having to buy one later and put it in. Chevy already does this...come on Ford!!

For anyone looking to put n Expy center console in a new SuperCrew with the wider console an no armrests make sure you specify that you want an Expy console from '00-'01 if you buy one. The '97-'99 consoles are only to be used if you have armrests armrests.

Maybe by the time I get my SuperCrew ('03-'04) they will have added the "full" center console. I am glad that they are finally putting head rests in for the back seat.

That's true, Blue, but the new console is MUCH nicer than the older one. Nice enough that I don't think I'm going to bother with the Expy shuffle -- which I *had* planned to do.

I just do not understand why they do not offer it as an option. The space in between the console and the dash is just wasted space for most people (at least those with automatics).

Is the new console longer? I would love to see some pictures of the interior when you get them!

Enjoy the new ride!

LongTime,
All good news to me, but 2 additional questions:
1) With the rearseat headrests, is there a problem flattening the rear seat with the front seats all the way back?
2) Without the rear center arm rest, where are the cup holders for the rear passengers? The right answer is on the back of center console
To me this is all good, I was considering the bench seats because I did not like the little arm rest, but I did like the seats and center console. I was also no big fan of the cup holders in the center arm rest where the kids have a better chance of spills on the new leather.
Ordering my truck the week after Turkey day ... I love it when a plan comes together!

Well, Bross -- your wish is granted. The rear peoples' cup holders are in the back of the new-improved console. As to the headrests and laying the seats flat -- I haven't jimmied with them too much yet, but I think you have to remove them (super easy) and then lay the seat flat. I'll experiment tomorrow to see if they tilt out of the way without removal.

I swear I think Ford reads these boards -- and it would make sense. Instead of spending lots of money on surveys, why not just read, for free, what people *really* think? What were our biggest gripes? Rear seat head rests. Center console. Armrests on captains chairs. All fixed. Lots of people been removing their stripes? No problem. They made it a LOT narrower and less noticeable. I'm very impressed.

I've got a request when someone decides to go rooting around inside their center console.

Please post the Ford part number on the list so all us "low life earlier build than yours" guys can have a chance to atleast upgrade our consoles if it's possible.

That is my only real bitch about my truck. The current console is too low to comfortably use as an armrest when driving.

I just got back from the dealer around the corner. He had about 15 Screws on his lot. Two of them had the new seats in them. While I did not get into the Lariat, I did take a long look at the XLT 60/40.
Good things;
They are comfortable. They have a lip right next to your "ham hocks", so you don't slide from side to side. (Those who have the leather 60/40 seats know what I'm talking about). The center armrest is the same.
The rear seats also have the "lips" on the edges, and are very comfortable.

While I didn't get in the Lariat(salesman never came back with the keys)I could see the changes. This truck had the leather Capt chairs and the new console. The center console is bigger, and the arm rests have been removed from the chairs.
(personal note)
Had they made this design from the start, I probably would have gone with the capt chairs(sorry Ford, you lost $500).

The headrests; I think everyone agrees this truck needs them but, I'm not so sure this design is the answer. I tried putting the rear seat down and, it hit the back of the front seat. I had to tilt the front seat forward, to get the back to go down. Even so, the headrest was pushing against the rear of the front seat.
It was mentioned earlier that they should come off easy, I couldn't get them to come off. I may have done something wrong, I don't know.
I think a mod connecting the new style headrests to the back of the cab, not the seat would be interesting.( Fedex pilot?)
My last note;
Those thinking of changing out the rearseats, the new ones don't match the old design.
Sorry for the huge message. Hope this helps.

Have not picked up my new truck yet, but it is at the dealer. The new console is alot higher up then the old one, so much so that I couldn't find the CD player. Thats because they have a new lift out tray over the CD player for your extra cd's plus whatever small items you need too get to quickly.
Then way down in the darkness of the console is the cd player with all the storage area you'd ever need. I do think it is the Kings Ranch Edition Console, without the embossed KRE lid.

Question

What do you mean, "they don't match the old design"? Do you mean they aren't the same material designs or do they work differently?

Sorry about that. The new seats have a new shape and the stitch pattern is very different. The old design has a wavey style of stitching where as the new have straight horizontal lines. They don't look the same, in other words. The seats function the same, as far as up and down positions.

Woody:

I picked mine up on Saturday morning. The rear headrests are easy to remove. Once you lift them up, there is a small "botton" on the plastic collar where the silver rods fit into the seat. By pressing the button, you can simply pull the headrest out of the seat. Then once you lay the seat down you can actually store the headrest under the flap that is on the back of the folded seat. Works great, and there's enough adjustment for even the tallest of passengers to be protected.

I haven't been able to find a part number for the console, but will try harder tomorrow. I'll also try to measure the width for you so you can determine if it might fit between your seats. Even if you have to remove your arm rests this console will be more comfortable for you. The armrests were my only concern when I ordered the captain's chairs, but I just figured I'd get used to them. This console is very comfortable as an arm rest while driving.

I did try the button, but still couldn't get the darn thing out. There wasn't anyone around, so I worked on it for a while. Again, I may have been doing it wrong.

I finally got around to measuring my console today. Sorry to have taken so long. It is 12" wide, about 16.5" tall, and 28" from front to rear on the floor. The back end of the console where the rear seat cup holders are located extends about 3" more to the rear compared with the back end at the floor. I hope that makes sense! I still couldn't find a part number. Good Luck!

I was at my local ford dealer checking out the new F150 Supercrews. And I discovered that along with the new seats, which look great by the way. They have added to the trucks 7-Wire Trailer Harness and 4 Wire trailer Harness and automatic day/night rearview mirror. Man I can not wait until my new super crew arrives. Does anyone know where the 6 disc changer will be place if you have the 60/40 split heated bench seats?
