Headlight Sensor
This is my first post, so forgive me if it doesn't work right. Have had my SCrew for two weeks. Some paint problems, but other than that, GREAT TRUCK!
My Question is this: Is there any way to adjust the headlight sensor in the auto headlight mode. They don't seem to come on when it is dark and rainy during the day. Kind of a pain to switch on if they are supposed to be "Auto" headlights. I know, a little pickey
, but any help would be appreciated!

You found the right place to get some answers. Check through the past pages for some background.
Got the same problem. Don't come on soon enough for me. Also, law in Virginia is lights must be on when wipers are running. It's rained and become somewhat dark and the auto lights don't come on.

Maxum and GO 4D IT,
What auto lights? I noticed that you both have XLT's. I thought the auto light feature was only on the Lariet? Unless I'm missing something in my truck. I also have an XLT. Is the auto light feature part of an option? Just wondering.

The autolamp feature was included on the XLT with the Power Driver's Seat option. I'm looking forward to it on my truck.

One thing you can do is to partially cover the dash sensor with something...square of electrician's tape, cloth dashboard cover, plastic hula girl, etc. On my old crwon vic I covered the entire dash with black felt (to minimize windshield reflections) and had the result of DLR's when autolamp was engaged. Partially covering this sensor would have the effect of reducing the light enough to cause rainy day activation...

It seems to me there must be a way to reset the sensitivity to activate the lights at a higher level of lighting than the factory setup; or perhaps a sensor replacement which will do the same. Hopefully, someone with the answer will read this string.

I kind of like the Hula Girl solution myself!Actually I'll try to partially cover the sensor, thanks dtrosch. Now can you tell me where the sensor is located so that I can properly locate that Hula Girl?

I had the same problem, took it to the dealer and they adjusted it. They did something up under the dash and I just don't 'go there'.
I still have to manually turn them on during day rain as that's the VA law.
Before the dealer fixed it the option was worthless. Now it's great.
My sensor is on top the dash in the middle, a grate about the size of a postage stamp.
Also, my '99 has a wheel to set the autoshutoff from 20sec to 3 minutes. I heard they did away with the wheel. Just curious how long do the lights stay on now?

They stay on for about 20 seconds. Not long enough IMHO. And yes, they did away with the adjustment on this as well. I guess I may try "Dealer Land" and see what they suggest.
