Post Attention Fishermen!

Help! I'll soon have my brand new S-Crew and I need to carry my surf and fly rods. Anybody know of a good roof rack system I can buy? Where can I look for it?

I have looked myself, I can't seem to get enough information from Nissan, but the have the racks for their little 4-door that will fit. They can't seem to find a price for a completed unit. All I ever get is "It's cheaper to buy if with the truck" C'mon if I had wanted a rice burner, I would have bought one! Seriously, I have looked a friends, and they could be modified very easily to fit on the Screw, but I can't get the info I need to make a decision.

On the other hand, if you want temporary use of the rack, Pep-Boys make a little system that is really easy to use. I have a set, they cost about $75. I know for a fact that they are strong, I bought them to use for work when I travel and don't have access to my truck, to carry a 32' fiberglass ladder. The ladder weighs about 150#, and rides fine on top of a rented Taurus of Intrepid. On the Screw, just as easy to use, you just have to be careful to balance the load and tie it down good, otherwise it will not stay. With the Screw design on the roof, it is really hard to get the bars spaced far enough to evenly distribute the weight.

Hope this helps!?

Thumbs up

bassman43211,

I have two different methods of carrying my fishing gear. I have a custom 5' wide x 2' deep lightweight aluminum rack that mounts to the frame on the front of my truck. It has room for carrying about 7 rods plus coolers, tackle, bait etc. Only takes a couple minutes to bolt on. You've seen these if you've been to Hatteras.

I also have a Thule roof rack (Yakima are also good). Simply get the ski rack attachment and it will hold your fishing rods perfectly.

We usually put the rods in the ski rack for long distance trips then move them to the front rack while on the beach for easy access.

Check out the racks on this web page: http://www.windance.com/roofracks/roofracks.asp

Adamski and Wickman thanks for the suggestions.
I called the local Thule dealer because thats what I currently have on my old beach buggy; but guess what? They don't make adapters for any F150's after 1997! I'll check with Yakima next.

Yakima also says no dice!
Shy of dilling holes in the roof, they haven't solved how to do it.(yet)

bassman43211,

I don't think this is an option for you, but I have seen roof racks mounted to artificial rain gutters on a bed cap. My father-in-law has an ARE cap on his '97 F150 and this works nicely for him.

I hope that Thule and Yakima get thier act together so I can get a rack for my truck when it arrives but I may just mount the rack on the cap since I will also be getting a cap.

bassman- are you wanting permanent mount or like a quick disconnect? I know that the cheap models that Pep-Boys carries works on almost any and every vehicle there is. They have nylon straps and like a J hook that simply hooks over the strip of metal around the top of the door jamb just under the weather stripping. It takes about 5 minutes to put them on and take them off.
Just a little more info.
