Question To lid or not to lid

Just wanted some opinions on lids.

Why you went with the ARE vs Snug and vise versa.

Why you went with a lid vs topper

Also, can you drive with the lid open. Just thinking of the not so frequent times that something may not fit.

Hey Coop,

Sorry to be off the subject, but I see you ordered your S-Crew. Congratulations!! Did you go through John Walsh (Phil Long)? What kinda deal did you get? Now the wait begins. It'll feel like forever but is worth every moment.

By the way I went with the "Extang" soft Tonneau.

Question

Hey Mtn Mike,

I'm as curious as cooper. I received my S. Crew on 9/25 after 5 months wait!!!! But now I'm looking at covers for the bed. I like the look of a hard lid, but am concerned about the few times I may have something big to haul. But what I need to know, is it a hassle to use the bed extender when you have a soft Tonneau cover?

Anybody else got ideas?

Thumbs up

mtnmike,
I got my truck through a friend of a friend who works for a ford dealer in Greely. I didn't have to order because they were able to locate one coming from the factory to a dealer in the springs. They setup a dealer trade and I should have it some time next week. I paid 1% under invoice +159 d&h + tax. I got my financing through eloan which blew away my credit union by about 1 1/2 percent. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I would also like more information on hard lids. How difficult are they to remove? Are some brands much easier than others? It would seem possible to make one that could be disconnected at the shocks and at the hinges and lifted off. Most of what I have read seems to sound more complicated. Crawling under the lid and taking off lots of clamps. If you have one, how does your lid come off? ARE, Snuglid others ???

Arbee:
I have a Snuglid and I really like it...I'm always gettings compliments about it. The fit is terrific and teh paint matches perfectly (Oxford White).
It requires two people to get on and off but its easy to do...there are two metal tabs (attached to the lid) that slide into metal slots at the front of the bed. You have to hold up the rear of the lid to get the proper angle so the tabs will slide in. The struts are also pretty easy; they pop on and off and are secured with safety clips. The biggest pain is storing the lid when its off the truck. I set it on two sawhorses and that works OK providing you have the space.

I highly recommend the Snuglid...its about $600.
