Post Radar Detector Mounting and Power

I am going to install a radar detector into my Screw. I caught a few messages where some has wired into the console wiring. I took a look at getting the overhead console off by removing the screw in the front of the overhead console but it seems like it is attached at the rear as well, so I didn't want to force it and break anything. Anyone know how to get the overhead console off?

F150aGoGo, check my post of 10/1/00 at https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000617.html It has a couple of links in it about wiring in the overhead console. There are a couple of friction clips that hold it in after you remove the screw. Apply a little presure and it will come off.

Hey I 've done this twice, since my first on was wrecked. Remove the screw from the overhead, like you stated, then the rear is held on by 2 clips, one on each side in the garage door opener bay. Just pull straight down there and the overhead will come down. Be careful, my first truck the cover would come off by itself. The second truck the compass is screwed to the cover so you'll have to unplug the wires to get it out of the way. Also check your voltage well on the wires you use. I found 9, 11.8, 12.0 and finally battery, (14+) on this new truck. The other truck I just used the 12.0. The radar detector works fine on either. After I wired it, I stuck it to the windshield and double sided taped it to the rearview for stability.
If I can help anymore, feel free to email.

Thanks guys, here is what I wound up doing in case anyone in the future wants an easy way.

Went to Radio Shack and purchased a good long the straight cord with the proper ends. Put the radar on the windshield and ran the cord along the headliner, down the pillar, under the dash, and up through the back of the power plug/cigarette lighter. The power plug cover shuts, and the setup looks good clean with no custom wiring.

Cool

Here are a few pictures of a radar detector direct wire in a SCrew with moon roof ...

Remove small overhead console (four clips)and disconnect cable from plug.

Interior of console

Confirm that white/ blue wire is 12 volt w/ key in ignition

Splice radar detector (hot) cable into SCrew white/ blue wire.

Tape wires together

Gound radar detector to console bracket.

Complete installation.
