I agree with F150agogo, the gibson may be great and all, but there is no tone. I talked to a guy at a local shop with a gibson, and he doesn't like it (he's looking for someone to buy it from him-to install a ravin). It is a personal opinion as to what exhaust is or isn't used.

The Z33 sounds like what you are describing. It has a very distinc growl at idle, and is extremely refined untill you get on it. I have not lost any power, I really feel like it runs better with the exhaust.

It sounds like you would be better off with something like the Gibson or a Dynomax. I can't say that I have ever heard a vehicle with a single in, single out exhaust that had a loud tone, the tips and actual pipes are what help make the sound. I had 3 1/2 inch chrome tips installed, to give it a resonance, and it really completed the sound.

The tips make all the difference in the sound. Pipes with no tips tend to have a higher pitched sound, but by adding the tips, it deepens the tone and adds a certain amount of resonance. I had the 3 1/2 inch chrome tips put on. It is a good medium and it looks good on the truck. I was afraid that any thing else wouldn't "fit" the truck right. There again, the good thing about the tips are that you can have the installer put up different tips to hear the difference. Another thing is if the tips are not installed right, the tone is affected. The tail pipe only needs to be about two inches into the tip for the "proper" sound.

GO 4D IT,

I don't know about the 'cackle' thing you mentioned...my Z55 has none of that. Just a good rumble at idle and a 'gooder' rumble when I mash the accelerator. Everyone has their opinion, and that's okay, but the guy at my Midas shop has a Flow on his Camaro and said he wished the Ravin was out when he did it because he'd have a Z33 on there (he likes LOUD).

Thumbs up

150aGoGo...thanks for the feedback!!

As the Ravin does sound like a great product, I think the Gibson "Swept Side" exhaust system best fits the bill for what I am looking for. I am not big on a lot of sound but need the HP and Torque gains....this I believe "Gibson" does the best.

Ravin does have a great product, but is geared mostly for those who are also looking for sound....thanks again to all for the help.

I love this site!

Rudy,
Just wondering...Were you on "Survivor"? Heard Rudy from that show lives somewhere in eastern Virginia.

P.S.-Sorry Board about the non-SCrew related question. Seems like I've read every thread here anxiously waiting for my SCrew. Trying to break up the monotony.
