Question Bed Extender and Bed Caps

I have the factory supplied bed extender with my Screw. Has anybody been able to locate a bed cap that does not interfere with the functionality of the bed extender?

I have tlaked with Jason's bed caps and Leer. Leer says none of their caps will work. Jason's says to just go to a retailer and see if it will work. Not very proactive on their part.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

g-money,

In this forum (somewhere) I saw a bed "lid" and someone with the bed extenter w/Pictures too. I think A.R.E LSII fiberglass bed lid does the job. Dunno about Caps... The lid is around $700 w/optional wing for it is around $200-$250.

g-money,

I have the Astro lid and bed extender. The bed extender clears the lid fine. I chose the Astro because it is made just up the road and I like its profile (flater with rounded edges).

I'm told the ARE does not interfer either. I liked the ARE but not its raised profile. Although, I might have gone with it if they had the remote option prior to my purchase.

Good luck,

I was told by are that theirs will fit. I'll let you know when it comes in.

"Dear David,

Thank you for your submission to A.R.E.'s Suggestions, Questions and Ideas. Your entry will not be displayed on our Web site. The Suggestion, Question, or Idea that you submitted is:
I have a 2001 SuperCrew with the metal bed extender, a factory optioned "cage" that pivots out onto the lowered tailgate for more cargo capacity. Many of the non-ARE caps have seen do not have the clearance necessary for the bed extender to swing out without hitting the gas struts used to raise the cap door. Have you looked at this and does your cap have the clearance necessary? Also, my local ARE rep had no info on the remote keyless option. How difficult would this be to self-install?

The bed extender will work with our caps on the Super Crew Ford. As far as installing the e-locks, we have individuals doing it all the time. We have very specific instructions we send with it. Thanks.

I got an ARE Z cap and was told that the bed extender would clear the cap. Well it really looked like it would...except the bed extender gets caught up on the Z cap's lock rings on each side of the cap. So when I have my bed extender in the bed I put in it so that I can lift it out off the bolts and then turn it around and reattach it. Somewhat of a pain but not too bad.

It is a fine looking cab high cap though. I added Yakima racks to it also.
