Leather holding up?
I ran thru all the old posts on this site concerning the complaints about the cheap leather used by Ford on old models and how fast it faded and tore. I also saw that the new Supercrew is supposed to have "nudo" leather that's as good as the Navigator's. How's it holding up?
i have just started noticing some wear in the area of the drivers seatseat panel closest to the door from sliding in and out of the crew. i must say that this leather feels somewhat softer than my expidition did. i have treated it with some leather preservitive when it was new.. its starting to wrinkle a bit in the area mentioned now,

You are going to need to put the leather conditioner on pretty regularly. On my vehicles with leather, I put the conditioner on about 8-10 times a year. Once a month during the hot months and every other month in the cold months. You can tell by the "feel" of the leather when it needs it.
The grey leather in my 1993 Probe GT is still in great condition. There is some wrinkling but no cracking, tearing, or fading.
If you want your leather to stay in great shape, condition it often.

dtrosch,
I have had good luck with a product called Lexol. They make a leather cleaner and a conditioner. I have seen it recently in Pep Boys but in the past had to mail order it.

This is my first leather and I'm being extra carefull and cleaning and treating frequantly.
FWIW... I am worried by the posts about the driver's side seat cushioning sagging and the leather showing wear from sliding in and out. I have been working on building a habit of stepping on my running boards entering and exiting (not sliding but standing). Its almost second nature now.

getting my leather seat recovered (by dealer) on friday. about 3 weeks ago, I felt a pain in my left thigh and looked down to see a spring in the seat popped up through my leather. It has since worn two holes in the cover. Part arrived at dealer and will now be replaced. I also said something to them about the sagging and building it up some. I'm 6'4"/290 so that probably had something to do with it. Got 7K on my truck.

If you're looking to buy Lexol and you can't find it at an auto store, go to a tack shop. All tack shops (saddlery/horse supply shops) carry Lexol and probably several other leather conditioners.
Be sure not to overcondition, though, as you probably don't want the oil coming off on your clothes every time you drive. I've ruined some riding pants by overconditioning my saddle.

Thanks northcrew and jillsnewsupercrew. I'll hunt some down and try it out. My leather is only about a month since delivery, and already seems a bit dry. I used some Meguires I bought at Track Auto, but didn't care for the smell. Thanks for the tip!

I also use the Lexol leather care products. I start with the cleaner which comes in an orange bottle then condition the leather with their leather conditioner which comes in a brown bottle. The stuff makes the leather feel great...soft and supple but not greasy and maintains a great new leather smell inside the car. It seems to protect VERY well!
For the vinyl and plastic portions of the interior I highly recommend Lexol's "Vinylex" product which comes in a blue bottle. Makes the interior parts look like new, not overly shiny like ArmorAll among others.
Condition the leather often and it should last a long time.
