I had the same problem with picking a shell. In the Bay Area I found 4 makes of shells available, Leer, Astro, Raven and Snugtop. I ended up going with the Snugtop. The Snugtop was around $1,450. and the other 3 were going for around $1,100. I liked the Snugtop because it has larger windows, an all glass rear door (no metal frame) and it covers the bed rails on the truck to give it a sharper look. The Leer sits on the rails with the lower half showing. Also, the color was a perfect match to the truck. I'm sure all the shells are fine, it just depends how much money you have left after buying the truck.

Dear Sonoma Super Crew,
I am pretty close to ordering a Snugtop XV for my Super Crew. I keep holding out to see if Leer or Stockland will adopt one of their current models to the Super Crew with even bigger windows, but sooner or later need to just order one. I am glad to hear you are happy with your snugtop, but have a couple of questions...

1) Was your $1450 including your Yakima rack, or without? What about installation of the rack? (I am trying to get a feel for what it would cost me without the rack)

2) Did it come with a rubber boot between the cab and cap to weatherproof the two together? I am thinking of leaving the sliders open so my dog can stick her nose into the cab.

3) Is there a rubber gasket/ weatherstripping around the base of the cap protecting the bed-rails? How well does it fit?

4) Do you have the bed extender? Does it operate w/out interference with the hatch mechanism?

If you wouldn't mind, can you take a handfull of closeups and post them at your photopoint page? I am interested in the details of the windows, hatch, and mounting method.

Thanks Much! -Dave

Question

Sonoma, any problems with a blind spot between the cab and the cap pillars?? Looks great! I'm trying to decide between the cap and a hard cover. And this certainly doesn't make it any easier !!

dtrosch & 1stnuford,
The $1,450. was only for the shell, I know it's alot of money. I figured in the long run I'd be glad I spent the extra money after looking at the other brands. The "track" rack system was something like $300. I ordered the shell with a slider, I assume they also offer a boot. The space between the two sliders is only about an inch. They did put a gasket under the shell but the lip of the shell completely covers the truck rails so it's almost impossible to leak (so far) into the bed.
I didn't order the extender so I'm not sure about the fit with the latch.
I have not noticed any blind spots with the pillars, never even thought about it. I've taken it on 3 camping trips (including hitting a deer with my new truck)and have been very happy with it so far.
Leaving for vacation in the morning but I'll take a few more pictures when I return.

ALOHA to everyone!!!

Had a new snugtop EV fitted on Screw yesterday in Cordelia Campways, very professional installation service I might add.
Also had a bedrug installed to match cap interior. Total pkg. w/install $1971. I can't believe how much I just spent, but the truck looks beautiful>>>>>>Oh, Yeah, cargo cage hangs up on locking latches left and right,oh well. Thanks Sonoma for photos....

docker,
Just back from a few days on the Big Island, kept looking for your truck but the only Supercrew I saw on the Island was a white/silver that was driven by an employee at the Mauna Lani resort we stayed at.
Great time in Kona! (Didn't take any Hilo plane tours)

Sorry I missed you, I drive to Waimea frequently but not so often to Kona.
Pretty strange about that tour plane. Some friends of mine saw it go in. The pilot kept his cool.
As you could see from the Kona coast there are some 4X4 lava crawling trails to the beaches. Just made for the supercrew, (family of four, coolers, tents and boogie boards).
Aloha
Docker.

Check out www.truck-central.com and click on the Glasstite catalog. They have caps with curved glass rear doors that open really high, don't know if it clears the cage. Different pics can be seen at their website, www.Glasstite.com. There's a red Crew on the homepage! www.4ARE.com also makes nice caps.
