Question Running boards for the Supercrew

I'm now so confused on this running board decision, I may end up doing nothing

At first I was sold on the Aerotec Premium Plus - colormatched to the harvest gold trim.
Yesterday while I was getting Line-X sprayed in, I saw the Westin nerf bars and they might look pretty good.

Can anyone post a url to pictures of their Supercrew's with running boards? It would be a big help.

Lariat, 4.6L, limited slip.

1st Mod - Lifetime NRA Member Sticker
2nd Mod - Line-X
more to come....

Mac--

Check these out: http://www.aerotecinc.com/ and http://www.dtacorp.com/ Both offer full-length, wheelwell-to-wheelwell boards so you can access the bed of the truck from the running board.

I ordered the Aero-Tec Premier One-Piece but rejected them when the dealer said he was going to have to trim my fender flares to make them seat correctly. I understand Aero-Tec has since improved the fit, but I've already ordered the DTA Ultra-Boards in the bright aluminum.

Good luck...my 5'3" wife has the same problem, to say nothing of my 82 year old father-in-law! I hope the boards get here soon...

Thanks for the info! I had looked at the Aerotec Premier Plus - Sounds like they may have some fit problems....

I'm going with colormatched - I'll keep looking....

Cool

can you tell us more about your DTA Ultra-boards. Even better can you post a pick of the boards installed. I'm planning on getting the ultra-boards in a couple of weeks when my new supercrew arrives. I would love to see what they look like. Also how far do they extend out from the side of the truck and are they high enough to keep others from causing door dings? Thanks!

I haven't yet, and don't think anyone else has, received their Ultra-boards that frequents this message board. It takes approx. 3 weeks to come in and I just ordered mine a week ago. There are some pics on web site www.dtacorp.com with Ultra-boards on a Supercrew.

The "cab legnth" board attached to body with no drilling. "wheel to wheel" board attaches to body with drilling only one hole in the board itself, to line up the last hole on body. DTA Corp rates boards at 700 lbs, so it's a nice sturdy piece.

I believe board width is 6" at widest point, with a 2" tall back piece. Mine are the tapered version, cab length.

I am anxious to get mine on in a few weeks...and will post pics if noone gets them installed before!

Mac--

I didn't mean to imply that you should discount the Aero-Tec boards, especially if the company says they've retooled the mold. I've seen them up close and they're the stuff if you want color-matched running boards. Just be sure they fit as they're supposed to, without carving on the truck. It won't cost you anything if something isn't right: the dealer who ordered mine refunded my deposit with no problem.

I only went with the DTA Ultra-Boards because I discovered them after the initial contact with Aero-Tec, and they were more what I was looking for: color-match was not an important criteria for me.

Good Luck!

EvilleSupercrew- Thanks for the info on the picture on DTA web site. I been to their site for months and never realized they had a supercrew pic. Sorry to hear about the wait. My local dealer is stocking them. Curious what price you were quoted by your dealer. I am wondering if the price is fixed or if dealers can raise the price.

There isn't a local dealer selling the Ultra-Boards so they (DTA) allow me to purchase them directly. Their "mail-order" price for cab length is $344 plus 15% (51.60) for black footplate, plus I believe $15 order processing charge, no additional freight, total $410.60.

What's your dealer charging? (MSRP for mine is something like $650)

Cost of my wheelwell-to-wheelwell Ultra-Boards was $483.11 which included shipping by FedEx because they're a tad too long to ship UPS.

Eville, I'm probably going to have mine Line-X'd (just the boards, not the SS tubes) to achieve a nice non-skid black effect.

EvilleSuperCrew-

My dealer wants $416.61 for the cab length with tapered front. That's the uninstalled price as I enjoy these kinds of projects. He said it is the dealer installed price they offer. DTA told me the list price for this item was $520.00. The dealer said I could have the well to well for $458.

Thumbs down

I bought the Ultraboards for my Suburban several years ago. My experience wasn't good. After finding them on the Internet, I wanted their tapered boards. There didn't appear to be any clear cut way to order the tapered boards on the Net at that time so I called and explained the problem and emphasized I wanted the tapered boards. When the boards came they were the far less attractive straight ones. I had to return them and get the tapered ones, an irritation to say the least but it rapidly got worse, They billed me an extra forty dollars for replacing the "wrong" boards I had ordered and I had to pay the return shipping on the wrong boards they sent. I probably spent over ten dollars and several hours total time over several days getting high enough up the ladder to get the forty dollar billing removed and as I recall a letter or e-mail to the right person finally resolved the issue. I had to send copies of my original correspondence requesting the tapered boards. I'm still out return shipping on a product I didn't order.

Needless to say I wasn't a happy camper at this point. Then I found that the angle iron(aluminum) connecting the running board to the underside of the body was smaller than it needed to be in my opinion making it a major hassle to get everything lined up with the double curve a Suburban body has. After finally getting everything installed, I found that the boards are too narrow and positioned where I find it easier to step over them than on them making it harder than ever to enter and exit the Suburban with a bad back. They did not stick out far enough to protect my body from dings either. Unfortunately the Sub is gone now so pictures aren't available.

No idea how all this applies to the SuperCrew but I've seen enough messages about DTA and the Ultraboards to feel the need to caution fellow board members. If at all possible try a set out that are mounted before buying and be sure to dot all your "I"s and cross all your "T"s dealing with DTA.
