Question Better Deal: Order or Buy off the lot?

Which option has more leverage in negotiating a good price? I see that alot of people are ordering their Screws and getting what appears to be great deals. Just curious as I have never ordered a vehicle. Any information would be appreciative.

Two schools of thought:

1) The truck on the lot is being 'floor-planned' -- costing the owner around $5 per day just in finance charges.

1a) In some dealerships, the bottom salesman gets the boot.

1b) Toward the end of the month (tally-up time), getting the sale (1-more to tally) can be worth more than the commission.

2) It doesn't take too many $500-over-invoice orders to make a fairly quick and easy paycheck. There's no floor-plan costs -- and no time investment.

I used #1 at the end of the month before the end of the year -- did well.

Depends if you can stand the wait. I shopped around for 3 months at 5 different dealers. All deals off the lot had at least one option on the Supercrew that I did not want, and the best deal I could pull was $700 over invoice(truck had been on the lot over 90 days). Since I did not need the truck right away I ordered exactly what I wanted for $100 over invoice from Len Stoler Ford on 8/4/00. Will have my Screw by early October (I hope).

I ordered mine on May 23rd and was delievered on July 21 (10 days earlier than VOCP est). By ordering I got everything I wanted at $100 over invoice. I could had gotten one (not what I wanted) for $500 over invoice of the lot. I'm glad I ordered and waited, it was worth it. Mine was ordered From Texan Ford in Katy, Texas.

I ordered my S-Crew for invoice price plus $114 FDAF. I could have bought one off the lot for 2% over invoice. So for me the wait was worth it.
