Question Bed Liners

I have been doing quite a lot of research on the web regarding bed liners but have not come across a site which compares the quality and versatility of the various manufactures of the insert type bed liners (I am not going to go with a spray-on or paint-on).

Does anybody have any data to support their decisions as to what plastic insert type bed liner is "the best"?

Cool

Spend the xtra few bucks and get a spray in, Ive had the drop ins and i've had 4 spray ons, NO comparison, plastic will never grace the bed of any of my trucks again.

Here is a great article on bedliners at TruckTrends...
http://www.trucktrend.com/apr99/liners/liners_f.html

I went with the Ford bedliner which is a Duraliner. I am very happy with it. I would rather have a spray liner but they are pretty expensive. I think I could get almost professional results with a DIY material like Herculiner (see the Bedliner forum) but I was apprehensive about scuffing up the truck. The factory liner was only a few more $ and no work.

Luckily I don't have the major drawback of moisture getting under the liner because I have an Astro hard tonneau lid. I know that the bed will still get scratched up underneath but that will just be a head start on a DIY spray-on in a few years if I want.

If you were apprehensive about scuffing the bed for a spray on liner, go look under your plastic one now, bet your bed is scuffed even if its not getting wet. Way back when, I had a drop in liner under a hard tonneau, when I took it out (truck was less than a year old) to do the rhino liner, the bed paint was trashed and had a couple pretty good rust spots. And this was a truck bed that didnt get used for any hard work, etc. Theres no denying the rhinos and line-x are about double the money, but very well worth it in the long run. My old plastic bed liner fits just perfect in my shed out back, so at least my riding mower has a nice piece of plastic under it.

If you planning on useing your pick up bed, which many of these people do not (maybe they should by an SUV) STAY AWAY from a sprayed in liner! I have had both on two seperate vehicles. 1)Sprayed in liners scratch easier (sliding objects). 2) They offer little protection from heavy items actually denting the bed during access/egress(plastic ridges protect). 3) They are not smooth and offer litle ease of use in sliding items in and out of the bed. 4) To repair correctly one must spray the entire surface.

Yes, plastic will scratch the bed below. I have never had rust but I do not get much rain in this climate. When it gets to looking bad simply replace it. Or spray in a liner for the next purchaser.

If you purchase the bed liner from the factory/dealer it falls under the trucks warrenty or after purcase I was told one year.
Other than that, I think the sprayed in liners look fantastic; provided they are applied correct.

Good luck let us know the outcome.

try bedrug

1 you cant take any other liner out and not leave damage

2 takes 30 mins to install

3 is PLASTIC just like spray ons or hard liners

4 30 day money back

5 lifetime warrenty

6 can do anything any other liner does and wont hurt your knees when you do crawl into it .. crawl into a spray=on liner

7 wont void your factory paint

www.bedrug.com

again im not saying for every one its the right fit .. BUT it is PLASTIC and WILL NOT HURT YOUR PAINT ... try that with a Spray-on They first have to scrape, sand , or grind your NEW factory paint off to get there plastic to stick.. line-x is one of my fav .. they sell bedrug's too BTW

When I had my Line-X done they did not scuff the surface. He used an alcohol based cleaner (I think) and just wiped it down and sprayed the bed. That was three years ago and it's holding up great. My truck was about three months old at the time so I had no scrapes or scratches in the bed. He told me he only scuffs it around areas that have already been scratched or scraped. On older trucks he may sand the whole thing down, but the local guy here does not sand down a new truck's paint. Just a tidbit of info I thought I would share.
