I'm getting 14.25 city and 16.25 highway. I am running a superchip, K&N air filter, and synthetic 10W-30. I thought that mileage was mediocre until I read this post. I guess it is pretty good for a 4X4 5.4L Screw. I try to drive like a grandpa, but I do like the throttle response. I keep putting my right foot in it some, not enough to break the tires loose y'understand, just enough to feel the zoom. I can't stand a yuppie lemming type automatically trying to shut me out in his stoopid SUV because he can't see around my truck, and he assumes he has the edge in power. Not very often!

I've had a high of 19.4 MPG on a fishing trip to Idaho. And a low of 13.6 on a mostly local roads or city driving tank. Much better than my 97' F150 SuperCab ever got.

digodell, something must be up with your engine. After 3,000 miles I've always gotten 14 to 16 highway and 13 to 14 around town. Mileage is about the same as my old 94 Supercab with the 5.0.

Lets not forget about the quality of the gas. My latest National Geographic has a blurb in it stating that 1/3 of all gas sold in the US is mixed (diluted) with alcohol. This is legal because it produces better emissions - but some stations do it to lower the price of their gas - ie. cheap gas.

What this means for the consumer is reduced power and mileage.

I discovered Steve's board shortly after buying my '97. The '96s were still pretty new -- and the 5.4's had only recently been invented. Steve and others were posting a running tally of gas mileages -- and the threads were almost overwhelmingly centered around everyone's surprize at the awful gas mileage.

From my experience, I started out in the mid 12's and ended up by 42,000 miles at a solid 15.

So far, Nick has been in the low to mid 13's (did a 14.3 today) and is up from the 12 or so when new (11,000 miles ago).

I only pray that I can get some of that 19MPG claimed by others here on the board (Imperial gallons???).

I now have 5200 miles on my Screw. My average mileage has been 15.5 mpg, the best I have gotten was 17.5 mpg (all freeway) and worst was 12 mpg(all city, my commute to work is a wopping 4 miles round trip).

If I were digodell I would take it back to the dealer and tell them to FIX IT.

With 4000 miles on my supercrew my in town mileage has ranged from 11.4 to 13.9 with an average of 12.7 mpg, my highway mileage has ranged from 14.7 to 17.3 with an average of 16.0 mpg. My overall MPG has been 14.8 mpg. If all your driving is city driving with alot of stop and go or standing still in traffic you probably are not going to do much better than 11 to 12 mpg. But first thing I would do is have the odometer checked.

Thanks for all the responces. Had the truck checked out they say its ok. I must say have about 3,500+ and an oil change with synthetics, it seems to be breaking in. The tire adjustment was miniscule when converting milage. Last two tanks of mid-gade (89 octane)resulted in 13.4 with city and moderate hiway driving. Power seems to me increasing slightly. Are the rigns setting in and this sucker as breaking in?

New three inch single Flowmaster 40 cat back to be installed next thurs. I will keep you all posted with milage news.
